try going to "convert.com". This will o0nly give charging times for flat batteries, but gives a very fair idea of times

๐ varnish

HI Alan, the best way I found to varnish the deck was the simple way. Rub down with 240wet and dry ,wash down with , white spirit, making sure that you leave no dust behind.
Dilute then fist coat of varnish(Wilkinson based is quite good) with50% with white spirit and leave to dry(not more than 12hrs. This can be repeated as any number of times as you like to get a rubbing down rub down and apply more varnish until you get the desired effect with 400 grade, Rub down gently, wash off, and apply more varnish. This method can be applied up to using 2000 grade paper, but all that will do will be to waste an awful lot of paper and varnish. Six coats should be enough. Works well on offshore boats as well
ONE point to remember, do NOT mix your varnishes, stick to poluruathane oil, or any oil based paIAINT do not use ronseal one coat !!!!

๐ Reade Models

HI Dave, I have had the same problem with reade models for some months. Although being unable to access their website, they never answer the phone, and I have been unable to leave a message.
As others, I hoped they had not gone out of business, but some three months of nothing is a little too long for my patience

HI Martin, PAMBC..... Peterborough area model boat club, We meet at Hampton Lakes.
Take a look at PAMBC.org. uk, and there you will find directions to the lake, and photos of a number of boats that we sail.
Hope this throws some light on our club.
Any problems, don't hesitate to come back to me

HI Martin. sorry to hear of experiences, I know not of the "club" that you speak of with large yachts, but it certainly wasn't us !!.
Any time please come and see us at PAMBC any Wednesday or Sunday, from usually 1pm until four and you can be sure of a welcome not forgetting the usual banter.>

๐ dust on painted areas

many thanks for the replies. since starting this exercise, and having had a number of conversations, the one result has been that there has been bits in the paint.
Regretably, there is no way of discovering how old the pain is, but it seems a common fault with humbrol paints
I am now in the process of finding other paints, and will in time begin spray. Haven't ever tried it before, so it should be interesting.

HI, I don't think is is very practical as the genny will come aft of the mast, how much depends on the size (eg 50%, 50% or 90% )
The problem is getting the genny around the mast. From my bown experience in offshore saing, the only way was to come up into the wind, realise the genny from the winch and let the wind take the genny around. Didn't always work, and mostb occasions we had to "hand" it around.
Hope this makes some sense.

Hi, jelley baby, I hve also rescued a sea commander, and am in the (getting to be) ptocess of restoration. Yours look jolly good, and if mine goes that well, I shall be very pleased. The only problem after reading other reprts, is that mine, being a very old build, weighs in at five and a half pounds when empty. How this will affect the speed remains to seen. The theory atbthe moment is for a Speed 600,with a 45x prop on12 volts Ie two sixvolts in the stern.
when's the video?

I am in theb process of restoring a similar model, also of bthe 1950/60s era. one thing about, they were well made. it's nice to be able to pick up a model without it being fragile!!!
To start, get motived, and once you start, it will carry on from there. Piles of wet and dry, and somewhere to putbit bso that sanding becomes almost(!) a pleasure.Once the fisrt coats go on, tou will be pleased to it take shape again.
good luck:

๐ฌ restored Sea Commander on speed 600

many thanks to you both.
At this time I have no idea of the weight except to say that from what I can gather from looking at the rudder that this boat seems to from the sixties/seventies, and is quite a substantial vessel.
She is undergoing a major refit.( spent the day rubbing down the inside of the hull, and removing paint from the toerail to the carlings.
This looks like being a long job.

HI dbninja. I have recently aquired a sea commander, and if I can get it go using the same setup as you, I shall be well satisfied.
There are two questions. (1) whereb exactly is the waterline, and (1), where does the batteries go. there appears bto be sufficient room in the after compartmnt, or is this too far aft.
