Baloons work well for waterproofing a rx. Put the rx into the outside of the baloon and pull the rest of the baloon over it, and then the neck over all and seal as you want.

When we had more plastic bags around I would cut a large corner off and selotape the rx into it.

I use old crystal type rx's and when sealed up I can never remember which crystal number is in there!

Over the many years in a model boat club I have let kids sail my models but lately the little kids have filled my models up with water & that destroys the receivers in the model SO my solution to this is to use the many Tylenol head ache pill bottles to keep receivers dry. So if I let any kids run the Puffer hopefully Only a few other electronic parts will get wet ๐Ÿค”

My wife thinks my Puffer looks like Noah's Ark I think it's because of all the rain we have had here since the hurricane season has started . My next stuff are Navigation lights doors & a little life boat. I'm so tired of buying these things & paying big bucks to get them after 2 weeks so I'll just make them my self. P.S I like a messy work space. Used spar varnish on the deck & hatch covers .

Here's what my AI had to say about the flat bottom on a Puffer ( The Clyde puffer is a type of small, coal-fired, single-masted cargo ship that was primarily built on the Forth and Clyde Canal in Scotland. These ships played a crucial role in providing a supply link around the west coast and the Hebrides1.

    Key Characteristics:

Bluff bows and a flat bottom: This design allowed them to beach and unload at low tide, which was essential for supplying remote settlements without suitable piers.

Garth, I think in the early day's of the Puffer they was built to be used on the cannels of Scotland, so they needed to have a flat bottom hull, also a flat bottom hold would be a lot easer to fill and remove any cargo, later you would see them move to trips around the cost of Scotland and later still they started to make longer sea trips, a flat bottom is OK for the cargo but is not a good idea for the open sea.
If a Puffer was beached the owner would have charged extra to do so, as if the Puffer was not beached right it could end up with a broken back.

P/S this is my little Puffer

Weil, since they were built in Scotland, that explains the accents in the Para Handy episodes that I have recorded! ๐Ÿ˜„

Garth, I stand very embarrassingly corrected. The Puffer does have a flat bottom. I should have remembered that since it wasnโ€™t that long ago I completed mine! Duuuh!๐Ÿค• ๐Ÿ‘Ž
Iโ€™ve done quite a few builds where theyโ€™re not true-to-type below the waterline. Doesnโ€™t bother me.
Looking forward to see your interpretation of a Puffer.

I have built to many tug boats & we have a member in our club that has a Clyde Puffer and he hardly ever runs it so I've decided to build one .The bottom isn't flat but no one will know that except me & anyone that reads this. I have a lot of finishing up on the model but that's always the fun part adding doors windows more planking etc. etc.

    Hi Garth
Looking at your photo.s I think you have a VIC Puffer, a VIC is a Victualling Inshore Craft, and was a type of auxiliary vessel built for the Royal Navy during the Second World War. The VIC was modelled on the Clyde puffer, have a look at VIC 32.
As for not having a flat bottom this could be down to the master mold not being made with a flat bottom.
