£3.71 from AliExpress. Sounds like a diesel truck to be honest. Not as tinny sounding in real life. Hey-ho...

I can remember a sound unit of a V8 being great, it was made by JJC Electronics, no longer trading, but you see them advertised on Ebay quite frequently.

    Cheers, Pete😊

I found this on AliExpress, with a bit of thinking thru, this could be useful at this price.

I just found this on AliExpress:

    Hi IanL1,

I think you would have to do a lot of searching on AliExpress to find a specific engine sound. ie V8...
If you are prepared to pay you can get sound modules that are loaded with the MP3 file you send to the maker
    ( as mentioned by SouthportPat...)

If you read the details you can send up to a 16 second clip...I don't know if it would adjust with the throttle though, you would need to do a bit more research

Sounds authentic for the type of engine. I need a V8 sound so do you know if something is offered? Cheers Ian

Bloody hell BilboB1 I ordered something from Widnes a couple of weeks ago and it was posted same day first class according to the post mark but it took 14 days to arrive and its only 15 miles away

You must be lucky I think the quickest I have had anything from AliExpress is about 3 weeks and I ordered something over the Chinese new year and that look nearly 5 weeks

I ordered some M2 nuts and bolts and some inline fuse holders as well as the sound module, all for about a tenner. Took 7 days I think from China (3 of them with Evri 🤬)
I had a look at UK makers and thought I would give it a go, because they are a tad pricey - you get what you pay for in the end I guess 😁

TBH I have had bad experiences with AliExpress - not the least being the length of time it takes to get them and the lack of support for sound modules I use the following :-

Modelradioworkshop in Southampton - next day delivery and excellent product and lots to choose from not just diesel - see my GoTo Suppliers posting for contact details

I have started my first 'bought' kit a couple of weeks ago to re-learn the basics.
I think I'm getting a little 'punchy' and thought I would post my progress (pics) and ask a really daft question about the bow.
My question is....should I be aiming for a 'pointy' bow or a 'rounded' (as per the underlying balsa shape) bow.

As I said, I've got a lot of self doubt creeping in because of the planking, I've usually bypassed that method before...

If you haven't glued them then I would take off and refit with the correct faring. It will pay off in the long run and the finished shape of the hull will be a lot better with less filling and sanding etc. When faring the frames, lay a typical plank over the area you are faring to see where the high spots are. I am sure there will be examples of how to do this on the net. Good Luck. Ian

    Hi Ian,
Thank you for the advice.....do you think I should take the planks off and start again or will I get away with it ? 👍

Hi, its looking good but my feeling is you need to do some faring of the frames to get the planks to lay properly and follow the correct shape. The top one is not fitting due to the width at the bend area compared to the narrow planks. I think kits come with the basics and its the builder who does the final fitting. Suggest you check out Dan Lees youtube of faring etc on a full size to see what I mean. Cheers and good luck. Ian

Thanks Trident, I discovered that when I sat down with a cuppa and the instructions, I'd had a very messy session planking and had glue and clamps everywhere 🤣

    Hiya.

    Looking good!

It is reasonably pointy and made sharper with the addition of the keel strip (in your kit this is in three parts, one of which is ‘u’ shaped to fit the profile of the bow.)

Have attached a couple of pics of mine.

I wish I had added comments to each pic and that they had uploaded in chronological order...but I'll try to fix going forward.
I quickly realised that following the Occre instructions strictly, would have got me into trouble very early on.
    1. The prop, rudder, linkages, motor, receiver, Esc all have to be positioned before any planking/topside stuff.
    2. The bulwarks should not be permanently attached before planking, you'll break them, I did 🤣 (I pinned them on temporarily.to get the planking right)
Also, water resistant coating needs to be applied before planking the bottom of hull.
I'm going to Google around and see if I can find pics of what glass tissue/epoxy or indeed nylon stocking/epoxy looks like.
I want the hull to be as watertight & strong as possible.
Also, I've ordered a diesel sound module from AliExpress for £4 and an intermittent misting atomiser (looks like smoke) for £9 (for 3 units) off eBay.
I've also got a few 3mm LEDs I want to incorporate for port/starboard/mast/bridge lights.
I've gone big 😁😁 but I want to see what works and what doesn't

    Hello Bilbo

First of all......ere are no stupid questions, there are only stupid answers.
But I can't help you with that either.
I had the "Ulisis" on the plan but then I discarded it again.
Reason.....I don't have the confidence to tackle a wooden hull.
    But I like what I see there.👍
I hope you also show the further progress of the construction.

Ignore my question about the bow profile, I've regained my sanity and know what I'm doing (I think 🤔)

    ps
Having re-read the assembly instructions, there is a piece of shaped stripwood that covers/hides the bow/keel centre line ( I don't know the maritime term), but a bit of sanding, filling should take care of it 👍
