Putting together all the parts made earlier.
Marked up the boat ID , and name plates.
Now just need a crew, and a pond to sail on.
I heard the pond I use is weed covered at the moment so it could be the canal.

I heard the pond I use is weed covered at the moment so it could be the canal.
At the start of the build using drawings from model boat mag. I researched this boat and found the first boats were purely sail driven.
The hull dimensions and design has not changed because of the introduction of gasoline engines therefore through a suggestion of a watcher have been working on an alternative superstructure changing my boat to sail.
I sent for a set of plans for the actual boat from Brown,Son and Ferguson Ltd, Glasgow.
These included sails and rigging plans. These had to be rescaled to suit my hull
Attached photographs show my attempt at sails. These are not finished but I have included wired luff ropes served all the way. Still to fit crinkles, etc.
I am hoping to sail under sail but I think it will have to be windward and then motor back. This because dipping lug sail arrangement is difficult to arrange using rc control.
Unless any of you know something different.
just by coincidence Model Boats Mag August 2020 has details of a kit build Zulu.

Looks as if you are making a very good job of the sails. Your only problem would be dipping the main yard around the fore mast as I've said before, but you have answered that one in saying that you will motor to windward, probably only necessary on one tack, and sail when you can. Nice coincidence there being the article in Model Boats, wasn't it. Best of luck as you proceed.
Well after three weeks of sewing sails and lot more in making and fitting the rigging we have how the Zulu class fishing trawler looked about 1890. The motorised version was in use till the 1950.
Interesting points was how much sail was on a boat of this size, enabling a fast return to harbour to get the best fish price.
Also as you will notice two chimneys, one for the cook stove, the other from a steam boiler to power the steam capstan. Fishermen it seems were keen to adopt modern technology where it reduced hard labour in fishing net retrieval.
One issue I have with this model, there appears to be no ships boat onboard. Also the lack of any anchors.
A visit to the fishing museum when is opens is required for further research.
Any ideas folks.

Sorry just noticed Hillro , the wheel house is missing ,is this intentional? Or can the wheel house be added to become a later variant of the Zulu ?.
Cheers Marky👍
Hi Marky.
The sail version did not have a wheel house. If you look further down the post you will see the motor propelled version.
During building this, i had a thought to replace above deck to a sail version.
I can change these over as i require.
Robert.
Just had a reply from the Scottish Fishing Museum.
It seems that the sail version of Zulu did not have a ships boat.
Also the ships anchor was seemingly stored below the fore deck.
This was to keep the decks clear for sailing operations.
Well done.
