Hi Keith, (O/F). that Yacht of yours looks very nice and has very similar lines to Amazon, and on about similar, you are not by any chance related to Claude Greengrass from Heartbeat, or are you? You certainly have that look and a better avatar than O/F. Best regards, and kindly do a build log as myself and others will be most interested.

I will be following your build so hopefully your wife won't add more to your 'Todo' list.

Hi O/F, (your name would be useful?) The steam Yacht mentioned in this post once belonged to Arthur Lowe (Captain Mainwaring of Dad's Army fame,) and her name is Amazon 1885 vintage. Regards, Gary.

Gary you sounded like Judith Durham from the Oz group The Seekers !!!!!!!!!! - Seriously its unfortunate all things come to an end eventually - I notice not many of us build Egyptian or Roman warships nor Viking Longships much either . I have a collection of articles from old Magazines on those ships - some magazines even dating back to the 50's - but its a very thin file.............Most of us build ones that we have seen in person or film that takes our fancy - usually from our lifetime. Personally I get sick of hearing about the Titanic - it was a very minor sea disaster compared to some others I have read about like the sinking of a German refugee Liner in the Baltic - something like 5000 lives were lost - many of them women & children . I live near where the Birkenhead sank and the hundreds of soldiers on board gave up their lives to save the women & children . A friend now owns the house where most of the survivors were taken to for shelter . The then owner Sir Robert Stanford got them all back safely to Capetown. Naturally locals cash in and even a micro brewery/winery is named after the Birkenhead amongst others. Dont care for that sort of thing much either...........

Hi JB, and thanks for the photos, the boat looks to be in incredible condition now as when Arthur Lowe's son owned it, it was looking a bit in need of care and attention. I have found another photo of her in Ramsgate and looking very smart. Arthur Lowe owned her for many years and spent a fortune on her. You mentioned Coronation Street but his much more famous role was as Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army, a comedy series about The Home Guard. Regards, Gary.

Hi Gary, here are a couple more pics for you of Amazon. The 'cold' pic is of her at the mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut in 2009.

as you would know, she was once restored by Arthur Lowe of Coronation St (TV) fame. Apparently was a bit of a party boat under his ownership.

Gary, they may have ended for some, but a lot of us modellers can bring a lot of it to life again.
Cheers Colin.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end, but they did and the likes of which we will never see again, more is the pity. Regards, Gary.

Hi Nerys, (I have to check that spelling every time I use it,) I wanted to find one decent photo for you and managed care of photoshop. Now you can see the bigger picture and the exquisite shape of that hull. The hull is original and 2" thick Burmese teak sheathed in copper. Quite incredible to have survived two world wars and a near-miss from a V2 rocket. Regards, Gary.

That's what you call a steam yacht, just imagine Cowes Roads during Cowes Week in Victorian times with umpteen yachts like that anchored waiting for the arrival of the Royal Yacht, 'Victoria and Albert' with a Dreadnought in attendance as a guard ship and to fire royal salutes. Those were the days!!!!

Hi Nerys, the Amazon Steam Yacht 1885 photographed in 1994 Scotland, the photos are stuck together, so four for the price of one. Regards, Gary.

Beautifully finished deckhouse, bridge and funnel, right down to the rivets. The deck looks pretty good too. I look forward to seeing the completed puffer, I'm expecting something superb.

To be perfectly honest the puffer has made very little progress to date, as we had an unfortunate incident and progress came to a grinding halt. Mind, we have managed to put that behind us and hopefully move on. Having repaired the damage to fittings and engine housing I can now declare this as actually being complete and in one lump. Regards, Gary.
