Thank you one and all for your thoughts, I had better get on with making them or sketching a plan for the assistant to make on his next visit.😴

Spot on! Even belligerents obey the law.

I think that it is maritime law that ALL vessels must have navigation lights. Whether they are switched or not is a different matter.⛵🚤

I think you have Mike👍
My thought was also to look at Spitfire of the Seas newsreels.
Like JB I reckoned it would be dodgy for a bunch of 'em to enter harbour on a black moonless night without minimal lighting, albeit probably severely reduced - like car headlights were.
Cheers, Doug 😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

My thoughts exactly JB.
Be a shame (🙄) if they all bumped into each other and sank in 'friendly'🤞 waters after surviving an action with S-Boats!

Hi Mike. pic of PT109 (from the movie) I think all boats would have had to have them for use in home ports. Wouldn't want PTs MTBs etc charging round at night with no lights, with hundreds of gallons of aviation fuel on board.

Yes they would, but to be stealthy they would turn them off, as most( read:all, except hospital ships and targets ) ships during the war would have done. 🤓

I may have answered my own question, that is yes they did so I suspect they switched them off during combat, here are 4 examples with navigation lights. unless anyone knows different

Good question and there was a reply on Mayhem to a similar question indicating that in time of war no lights were shown with one or two exceptions such as the lead ship in a convoy. So depending on the period you are modelling they may or may not have been visible.
