47ft Vosper Crash Tender

I originally built this in my early twenties (I'm now 71!) and like many other people it just got stored away until the lockdown when I decided to refurb it for something to do! Repaint, new motor and new radio gear plus more accessories which I got from SLEC. These were such things as window frames, tow hook, mast, fire monitors, air vents, decals and crane. The front wheel house windows of the current model that they produce are a slightly different shape to the original Aerokits version but I traced my windows for them and they very kindly produced a matching set of front windows! They are extremely helpful to deal with. Worth a visit to their website:-

The crash tender fittings are at the bottom of this webpage. Good luck. Cheers Duncan
P.S. I have also put this on the Motor Alignment discussion but I thought it might also be useful on this article for any one considering refurbishing one of these models.

A couple of years ago I rebuilt one my father and I built 60 years ago. You might find it helpful, but there are several other rebuilds on this site. Search on
Aerokits 1962 34.5" RAF Crash Tender rebuild, including interior
for mine.

Hiya,
Another photo of the coupling that might help you. The brass pulley wheel is not really necessary - it was a bit of old Meccano and just stopped the prop shaft sliding down too far during alignment! Cheers Duncan

Hi Martyn

I've taken some photos from inside my 50 year old Fire Tender. I hope these photos may help you. I tried to upload them from my phone after my earlier message but it kept saying 'Not enough memory'. Hopefully this will work! The 1st photo is the motor compartment, followed by the next but one compartment to the rear with the receiver and r/c switch for searchlight and then the final rear compartment with the rudder servo and a battery box for the searchlight. The next photo is the compartment behind the wheelhouse containing a water cooled ESC and will also have in here when in use a 11.2 volt LIPO battery. The latter two photos speak for themselves. I'm using a brushless motor which I got from SLEC. Hopefully you will find this useful.😊
Cheers

Hi Martin,

There are several blogs on this site covering Crash Tender builds. If you go to the ‘Blogs’ section and search for ‘Crash Tender’ you should find several listed. This is one I found very useful: https://model-boats.com/blogs/23951

There is also one by Mturpin013 that is well worth a read: https://model-boats.com/blogs/37275

I'm refurbing a model my dad made and am fitting R/C to it, does anyone with the same model have any pictures of the insides they would like to share. I'm very new to modeling and could do with some inspiration!!
Many Thanks
