Terry,

Do you put down a drop cloth on the floor?

My floor covering in the basement is a European style floating floor sometimes referred to as Klic-loc. It is a beige, every so often I take a broad wood chisel and clean off glue drips, paint drips, ect. Recently a Red model paint jar broke while opening the lid. What a mess that left!

Got most of it cleaned up after some mineral spirits but opening the windows to air out the house was not appreciated by my wife, especially on a Canadian winter day!

Hi Ron and yes I'm using the dining room table for the build.. no room for a work shop for me. I've just applied 3 coats of Parrs sanding sealer shellac with a soft rub down between coats. As for fiberglass I got some tissue to use on hull but uk weather being uk weather I'll have to wait till it warms up as you said gotta be done outside

I am amazed you are seemingly able to use what looks like the dining room in your house to transform into a workshop. Complete with a tablecloth still on the table! I hope you are not working above a carpet too?

When it comes to applying fibreglass cloth, and sealer best to not do this over the carpet and such.

I use a water clean-up Varathane to first seal the wood both inside and out before applying the cloth. I also use a light-weight cloth.

I apply several light coats of Varathane before using a light grit sandpaper softly after the coats have dried. Best not done in the house.

Thanks John for your comments. And yes I'm enjoying building this boat. Its so far been a good project. The only job I'm dreading is making the upholstery for her and as for figures I'm going for glamour lol.. tried a barbie doll but at 12" tall she was to big. Now waiting to try a Cindy doll at 10" tall

Hi Terry.

Many thanks for your super photos of the Slipper Launch build. My first reaction was this is far from being a strict beginners model. Hence with your progress to date, you clearly have little to fear from trying more complex projects in future.

in the meantime I hope the Slipper gives you a lot of satisfaction in the build and pleasure from sailing. In your travels, please keep an eye on charity shops for suitable figures to a common and appropriate scale - as many would feel an empty launch going round a steering course is hardly realistic.

Please post again if you have any questions and with best wishes.

TerryH, I always am intrigued to see what other builders' workshops are like...what space they share, what they share with, what other hobbies they appear to have. Thanks for your revealing photos. Nice build, BTW, of a kit that I'm unfamiliar with.

Recently was bought this laser cut kit and have never done one before.. got to say its an amazing kit with clear instructions for a novice like me. I got the basic kit because I didn't want the fittings kit that you can buy separately. I wanted to as they say make it my own. I've never done planking as yet so I decided to veneer the deck using pre glued walnut and English oak which you just iron on. Next step is to use fiberglass tissue on the hull to make sure it's completely water tight. Something else I've never done so should be interesting..
