Hi all, sorry to bother you with my trials and tribulations. I am going out sailing boats this morning and most of the afternoon, lovely weather here.
I shall come back as though nothing has happened and see if they still bear a grudge!

Of course they are Roy.
Just like printers and scanners, which always play up just when you need them most, to meet deadlines, they ALL belong to the same union.
Switching off your router and WLAN doesn't help. They simply hack a neighbours WLAN and carry on plotting.
My old cable TV box worked fine for 10+ years with just a coax connection.
The new one also needs an Internet connection, and thus commencetheth the conspiracy of the electronicals; freeze ups just before 'le grand denouement' of the film I'm watching - only way out the master restart (power down, wait 10+ secs, power up). But can I find a way to see the rest? Ha ha!
Or try to change channels and just get an error message 'Network configuration error IP4'. Etc etc. Last week suddenly all my recordings were flagged 'Not available for replay'😠
Only way out a hard drive reformat😭
It is war Roy, And the only probable winner is GOOGLE and all his tentacles🤔

Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug
They are in it together, I can't believe that my TV and the laptop are colluding in this!
My TV demanded a re-start!
I have never done a re-start on my TV, ever!
It is time for bed and decide whether it is war or humiliation.

Ed, that was lucky. I've been to 2 Citroën specialist garages that I have used for years and told me that all they can do is keep changing parts till they find the problem. The only guarantee is that its an electronic device problem.
So I have now got a replacement vehicle as I couldn't trust the old one to not let me down.
As I am a retired semi-disabled pensioner I have time to play with it at home in my own garage. So I'll play car doctor till I've checked everything and either fix it or break it for spares.
Cheers Colin.

Over the years I have been confronted by new programs that the IT crowd describe as 'very powerful'. My internal auto-correct re-defines this as 'user aggressive'.

I had a similar problem on a Ford Maverick some years back, in the end I told the Ford main dealer to take all their parts back in return my vehicle as it was when I eft it with them. They demanded that I paid before the released the vehicle. I went down to the dealership with a lawyers letter informing them that I would be claiming damages as well as the cost of a hire car. A picked up my car an hour later. The Ford Maverick was a re-badged Nissan Terrano so I took it to the Nissan dealership, the mechanic listened to the motor and told me he could fix it while I waited, the cost was £10. The problem was a perished rubber pipe and this was a known problem.
😂😂😂

Hi Colin garage techies are not what they were. I have a gentleman who maintains my car, you mention a fault and a car and he knows what it is!
When you go to a showroom and see all the certificates around the wall have a look at the small print. It never says anyone 'passed' a course only that they attended one.
Well I attended an expectant mothers course 'back in the day'.......

Not just personal comps, having spent nearly £500 to get my car through the annual mot. Only to have it start warning me of a problem with the DPF. So took it to my local garage to be told no fault showing on the computer, another £60. Asked if they could fix it??? Answer don't know, if the computer isn't showing a fault then it's trial and error, cost???
Answer, how long is a piece of string.
Went on line looking for answers, so far spent another £200 on various sensors and special tools.
Last option is a replacement ECU, £600. ????
WHO NEEDS PROGRESS.
Let me loose on a Morris minor any day.
Cheers Colin. 🤔

Hi Scratchb.... I never really migrated from fractions! I did end up working in several different counting systems, binary, Octal, bini-ten and a crazy French calculator with a negative value in its presentation of binary numbers. But then they also made eccentric cog wheels!
Do try fractions again I use them for all calculations for model boats, a better way of changing scales etc. Much easier to do in your head, although I usually fall asleep soon after!

Also why is the P so close to the O on the keyboard and another thing I get my tablets on the NHS!
When I was a Learning Support person at our local infant school any technical problems were resolved by my 7 year old class Guru.

It is amazing how reliable a notebook and pen can be. Don't need to re-load, no need to plug into any electricity, pen gives warning of departing and you can still use the facility with a torch.
Having been a computer techie when they were all the size a car I was not sure about buying my first one as I had a career of looking at broken ones.
Then, Bluetooth was a dental problem, WiFi was not on my radar, HiFi was enough for me. Broadband was thought of as a waistline problem.
I am not sure whether the ship left without me or I fell overboard!
Carry on carrying on! As I say to our grandaughter, when I was your age, I never knew anyone my age.

I'm with you. Usually I hav to get help from a 14y.o. neighbour or wait for my much-younger-than-me ladyfriend to show up & straighten things out. I keep individual pages in my journal for each troublemaker, er, I mean "service provider" with contact info & a diary of what was fixed & when. Yes,at 76 I write everything down now in a large paper notebook. And I date each entry.A page each for BELL,PRIMUS,PUBLIC MOBILE,CRA(Canada Revenue Agency) the people who take it away, & the agencies that giveth. Oh,& it seems to be a fulltime job doing administration of a phone, tablet, desktop setup not to mention router & wifi. A vessel & its dedicated transmitter-receiver is so much more user-friendly & reliable than a computer-radio

Would I be correct in thinking that today is a bad day and you are reflectively p….d off.
It wasn’t like it in our day when at school we had a solid wooden desk with a top that you lifted up and a little ink pot in the top right corner.
The abacus and the slide rule never got it wrong.
Progress…..Paaaaaahh😂😂
Take care all 👍

Oh, how much of this resonates. Almost weekly I have this discussion with my other half about how modern technology is supposed to make life easier. Huh !😐

The pedantic among you will realise I have ended a sentence with a preposition. Be that as it may. My laptop has decided to 'save' me from all of the evils out there and a few lurking within.
AVG wants a restart ,allegedly free, finds something interesting then wants to charge me to fix it.
I have another with the name help (?) in its title that tells me many of my drivers are out of date, like I kid you not 'Family driver! If only!
There is another called Defender which sits there and ignores me, why, am I not worthy?
I get mystery interruptions on 'messages' which do not affect me.
In desperation I did pay someone not to annoy me with adverts every 2 minutes on Youtube and that works, although does not seem to extend to the TV.
My IT supplier, no names but fathers do hope their daughter's comply, I had to switch my phone off the nice safe wires coming to the house into the black box everything comes in. The service was bad until I complained enough and things outside were sorted out, somewhere up the road. To get sympathy from India, I used extreme age, inability to get down on my knees and when down there could not see what I was doing and all the wires looked the same. All true but they vary in intensity each day. Actually it is the best total one available.
All this and my printer will not talk to me unless I threaten it with the 6th. extinction! Tried up-dating the driver and it has been difficult ever since.
I have to send a print instruction then enter Trouble-shooting and off she goes. I think it is the word shooting that is effective.
And as for scanning the laptop had the nerve to tell me that it had removed scanning to computer.
I found a program called Easy Scan (free) which ignores all this and works a treat.
Are we dismayed? It is the modern world testing you to see if you are fit to continue, but the words 'sod off' do come to mind!
