I agree with what you say about back in the 60's there wasn't metalic colours. But when I was buying model Airfix cars, planes and motorbike's I used to add silver paint into plain colours to see what they looked like and then paint the models. I used to think they looked quite good back then, my dad thought I was a bit barmy doing it. I had about 6 Ariel Arrow Motorbike models all painted in different colours. But there was the Ariel Golden Arrow 250 motorbike. That must have been the start of the metalic paints.

Already took the window frames back off and gave it a good sanding down ,had about 4 coats of blue,1 red ,and primer was pretty thick not suppriesd when I saw bits cracked and pitted under all that paint so treated it to some wood filler and will put primer on today will post pics later another trip to hospital with the mrs as she had major surgery on her foot Monday so been looking after her instead of the boat lol

Hey It's your boat, paint it in what ever colour's you like It was customer choice on the reel thing, as Colin said "even canary yellow" ! I'm doing mine midnight blue and white but only because I like midnight blue.

I got shot down on another site for daring to say that the traditional colours for Faireys were dark blue and white. The fact that most full-size and models use this colour-scheme says it all!

Anyway, I went on the Fairey Owners Club forum and many of the owners of full-size boats use International Paints Oxford Blue. I decided for my models to go for something a bit brighter and chose Sapphire Blue. It's a lovely blue but maybe I should have gone for Oxford? For the white I went for Snow White which I'm very pleased with. This is using their Toplac Plus top coat and One UP primer/undercoat. It is expensive though, especially if only painting one model, but I'm not!

I have a Huntress which was built by Dave Milbourn. He sprayed it with Halfords Ford Royal Blue and Appliance Gloss White which I think is a good representation of the classic Fairey colours. He used grey primer. They do white but some have had problems with it not going hard enough and causing problems with the gloss.
Building 6 Faireys at a scale of 1:12 and another in the pipeline!

That's a real bargain, and a good colour.
    Cheers Colin.

As Colin has said Wez colours are bespoke to customer requirements .. just remember though there would have been no metalics back in the 60s ... there is a fairey site I see somewhere as you can still get a Huntsman 31 built obvs with modern stuff oh and 900k in your wallet to spare๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
