The Song Sparrow has returned and I so enjoy their music, despite all the confusion and construction that has occurred this past year.

Sundays' 'Super moon' rising from the ocean. Taken from the main road to Orewa Beach Auckland outside my place at 11.15 pm. Was twice as big when I first saw it, but by the time I got my camera sorted it had reduced in size. Only reason I caught it, was that I went up to the road to see what the odd light was, - thought something was on fire !

Saw the same thing last year about this time while down at the beach, looks amazing.

Rob,
I assume that's not snow on those rocks? LOL

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Corning is a must-see even for non-technical persons. I watched glassworkers from the gallery. They insert a pontil rod into the open furnace & extract a glowing blob of molten glass, then form it into things such as $$$$$ paperweights. Don't be thinking you can purchase something inexpensive in the "giftshop", take a hi-limit creditcard with you. But it is worth the trip to see 13th century technology in operation.

DW my sister-in-law is on Canandaigua Lake so she'll investigate a bit, but these come to mind right away...

- Letchworth State Park, "The Grand Canyon of the East" A+
- Corning Glass Museum, a personal favorite, fantastic place!
- Watkins Glen State Park, gorgeous
- Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse
- Wineries in PennYan on the Keuka Lake Wine Trail
- Three Brothers Winery in Geneva, never been, but folks like it
- Seneca Lake Drive is super nice.
- Ontario Antique Mall in Farmington. Huge place 30,000 sq ft,
another favorite of mine. Awesome if you like to browse.

That's a good start. If you get down as far as the Catskills you have to drop in the cabin! More to follow. 😉

Jump,
Next August, we are traveling with several other Miatas, taking the northern route around the Great Lakes to Ottawa for a Miata Convention.
After that, some of us plan to head down into the Finger Lakes area (sort of) near you on our way home.
Do you have any "must see" suggestions for when we are in the general area?

We spent the final days, before we had to make the long boring drive home, in the Colorado Rockies. Two days after these shots, some of these roads were closed for the season by a snowstorm.

Nothing against eastern Colorado and all of Nebraska, but they just go on FOREVER.

After the Balloon Fiesta we spent some time in western New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado.
We hiked in to see an "Ice Cave" where there is a cave with 11' thick layer of ice in the New Mexico Desert. We also had to make a stop at the "Four Corners Monument" which is the only place in the US where 4 states (New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah) meet in one spot.
We camped by the Navajo Dam in northern New Mexico before venturing into Colorado.

My wife and I just returned from a 21 day, 4852 mile road trip. We started by spending 4 days crewing for the POW-MIA hot air balloon at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta (There were over 500 balloons there, I took hundreds of pictures ... this is just a sampling).
I know this isn't exactly "animals or nature", but I hope you find them interesting.

Tallest lighthouse in Canada located at Cap-des-Rosiers on the Gaspe peninsula, Quebec

Other lighthouse can be seen along the north and south shores of the Saint Lawrence River plus on some islands in the river. The mouth of the river is 62 km/100miles wide. Red lighthouse is located in La Matre, Quebec.

Thank you Boatshed! Happily the Bison are making a slow comeback. They are all over Yellowstone now a days, but prefer to be left alone. A small herd has gotten into the habit of crowding near the main entrance of the Yellowstone Hotel near the east entrance near the lake. Hence some of the unfortunate encounters between "selfie" seekers and some of the bulls. I must admit that Mary and I loved Yellowstone this go-around. You drive into the park and you can get lost in it for days. 142 miles around the place, 275 miles if you took every road. And "Old Faithful" geyser was in fine form! Wonderful!

And Yes...I took more figurehead pix; big eye rolls from Mary as I went for the 360 degree views!

jumpugly,
love the figure head would have loved her on my small 21 footer cabin cruiser when I had her on the Norfolk Broads😂not sure the wife would have approved though. But the Bison, that is my favorite wild animal. Beautiful animals far too few left in the world these days.

Thanks so much Jumpugly, unfortunately I wasn't able to take many photos because I almost never take my cell phone with me to the beach.
Yes, in Sardinia there are among the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean.
My son and I go for hours-long swims (up to three in a row) but always close to the coast.
The sea is calm, the marine fauna is not dangerous, the water temperature is very warm, the visibility is perfect.
We also go canoeing (I was able to take some photos there).

Thanks Doogle. I've seen many pheasants on country walks but never been able to get a decent photo of one. But on this occasion, during a walk around a lake, we were sitting down eating our sandwiches when this fella came wandering past only a few yards away!

Comm0dore-H,,
That's some name, I used to keep Tropical marine Fish. Mainly Lion Fish. But I knew that one as the Trigger Fish which is it normal name in English.
So the Hawai'ian's.
This name was too simple and boring for the imaginative Hawaiian people who love stories, legends, and myths. They decided to name it Humuhumunukunukuapua`a.

Don't you just love people with great imaginative brains.
Not an easy word to remember or even say.
When I saw the picture I thought that cannot be right that's a Trigger Fish. I never actually kept one of those I did keep Powder Blue's, Clown fish. Lion Fish and Banded Cat Shark's, Copper Banded Butterfly Fish and a Regal Tang. Used to have two tanks. That was when I was working and was able to afford to keep them. It becomes an expensive hobby. Even keeping the water to a specific Ph and running a Reverse Osmosis Unit. I used to sell the water to other people that had marine tanks at the time as well.
We also kept and showed Afghan Hounds we also breed them some years back, But have been completely pet free now for over 14 years. After loosing the last 2 Afghans it comes too hard on the emotions and we decided enough was enough.
No more. Plus we are now too if we took ion another dog they would out live us and that would not be fair on them.

Thanks for your kind words gentlemen. Believe it or not it's mostly a rattle can base, supplemented with lightly brushed facial features, and air-brushed highlights. The old less is more approach.
