Yes the bend at the bow is pretty sharp. On other builds I've had the join at the bow but with the Huntsman 31 I found it better to have joins down the sides so that you have plenty of timber to bend around the bow and glue along the sides. I used an angle joint to stop the ends springing out.

Thanks for help guys and Chris f have got all the deck planks off and I’m glad I did as half of them were not stuck down at all and I’ve sanded the rubbing strip to the point we’re it’s level , I did try soaking in hot water a small bit of wood and tried bending which did work to say the least for my first bending of wood goes , my idea was to soak the wood just for the bow as that bend on the nose is pretty sharp the rest was going to make small holes for pinning in place with gorilla glue to expand as it’s not too bad to sand in the end as if I had put the planking directly onto the deck it would of all been uneven after years of the rubbing strip having dents and chunks out of it and wouldn’t have been level well all I can do is try

What you could do is carefully sand the old rubbing strip away to give you a sound basis to fix the new.

As far as bending the timber goes all three options work but I prefer using the steam option using the kettle using oven gloves!

Trouble with the water option is that you have to wait for the timber to dry before being able to glue it. Its Ok if you want to tape the timber in place say overnight to conform to the shape required.

So just a quick question regarding the trim edge right around the top edge of the boat has gone pretty thin as there was some very bad dings in the wood so I’ve decided to put new on top of old so not to take completely off and open a can of worms what is the best way or what ways do anyone have ideas on bending wood to match the rounded bow so I’ve seen a few people use water or steam and heat gun but what would be the best outcome many thanks Wez

Absolutely. Some of my Fairey builds stalled and was an excuse to start another one because I'd reached the stage where the deck needed planking!

In the end I did three in one go which was a task, well four actually as I did the Huntress twice as I wasn't completely happy with the first one.

I haven't done anything on my builds for over 6 months for various reasons and am looking forward to starting again.

Planking can be very time consuming.....and satisfying in equal parts, but the end result will justify your time and effort.

Nice to have you back and active again Wes!
