You've got this Jim! A great challenge, but plenty robust with the
6mm ply. Will also build my 48" Chris Craft upside down. For me it's the only way to "true" the bulkheads and stringers as I have never invested in a large jig. Keep those pix coming!

Thank you everybody for welcoming me.
I’ve now started the Sarik Riva Aquarama. I bought the Short Kit from Sarik Hobbies which consists of one large sheet of plans and an old article from Marine Modelling Magazine April 1997 along with laser cut keel, stringers, and frames in 6mm ply.
I’m glueing the keel and the stringers together after sanding away all the laser burn marks.
Then I’ll be trying to understand how to build the hull upside down on a board!
Wish me luck!

Sarik Riva Aquarama

Hi,
I've nearly "finished" my Sarik Aquarama which I also build from a short set. I've built my previous boats from kits so this was my first attempt at (almost) a scratch build, plank on frame. I also cheated (because of costs) and made it a single prop version.
I decided that the original builder had made the plans in his own vision, so, I felt it was ok to put my (unique) stamp on it too (at least that's my excuse). I think there was an early aquarama that had a single engine, part of its evolution.

I'm not very good at finishing off my boats so probably won't complete all the fiddly bits.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Jim

Regarding your Sarik model of Thames River Barge, there use to be a group of enthusiasts who had a website AMBO Association of Model Barge Owners but its gone now, though about five years ago a private group was started on Facebook which you may fine useful for information and locating other fellow model barge enthusiasts in your region.

Hi,
I don't know whether it is any help but I built the Amati Riva Aquarama kit and here is my build blog which might be some help.

One thing that I did differently to the build instructions was to fit the rudders, motors and gear before planking the sides. Otherwise access to fitting the rudders especially is extremely restricted through the small rear hatch - even if you have small fingers! The build blog explains how I went about this process.

Good luck with the build and please don't hesitate to ask if you require any further information or advice
Cheers

Hi Jim welcome to the group. We are spread around the globe but have a common interest in making and running our model boats and yachts.
There will be someone in the forum who has been there before and we all love helping out with advice!

Pictures always help and the most basic questions get answered. Have you joined a club here in UK? Usually a good idea and most clubs will welcome a fellow modeller with open arms.

Good luck with the short kit, I am currently building a Wild Duck yacht from a Sarik set of laser cut parts and I thought at the time very good value for the money although some prices have since gone up.

I wish you well.

Sarik Riva Aquarama

Hello everybody, I’ve just joined.
I’ve done a few boats over the years mainly from kits: Occre Albatross. Occre Ulysses, now sold. Artesania Latina Atlantic, still got some fiddly bits to do. Thames Sailing Barge from a Sarik short kit (very short!) still on the fiddly bits.
I’m not good at fiddly bits!
I now have a Sarik (very) Short Kit of the Riva Aquarama which I have just started.
Has anybody else ever had a go at this model? It’s in 1:12 scale which is different to the Amati kit of the same boat, that’s in 1:10.
I think that I might have bitten off more than I can chew!⛵
