My Christmas present

Ronald. I didn’t mention that Little Canada was expensive; I have no way of knowing since I have not been there. Too bad the school groups create problems. There’s an incredible amount of time & hard work that goes into creating such intricate displays.
It’s been several years since I visited Miniatur in Hamburg. I don’t recall it being overly expensive, but perhaps it was. Miniatur is quite large; as I recall it covers three floors. I particularly liked the harbor display complete with RC boats and the traffic jam in a European city whose name I can’t recall that had a vehicular accident programmed into the automation. Complete with traffic tie up & responding emergency vehicles. The airport depiction, it might have been Zurich, was also fascinating.
For any modeler visiting Hamburg Miniatur is a “ do not miss”!

In response to Chum’s post about Little Canada. You are correct I made a mistake. My apology.

My Christmas present

EdW, next time I get any boats I'll try to remember the forum. About a year or two ago I was given one (kit still in the box) in great condition especially considering it was almost 50 years old. I don't know what the shipping would be to the UK. Sold it for $50US.

Lew, I had one of these years ago but sold it. Now that I am on pension and building boats again I have see a few on eBay but never managed to win one. Guess this one had my name on it.

My Christmas present

We enjoyed our Christmas day with our family. Weather was clear with a temperature of about 75F. It's been like this for a week or two including today. Should be running boats every day but you know the rest of the story. (No snow for 34 years)

Do you know of any online videos? Miniatur is incredible. Extremely detailed buildings, landscape, etc & the automation is amazing. I wish I could have wrangled an invitation to enter the control room. Only downside is the crowds. Even with strictly scheduled tours it is difficult to get close to some of the popular displays.

EdW, that is a winner. Of all the boat models I have seen, I think it is the best looking ones are the Zobel class boats, type 142A. I am not into large ships at a small scale (example 1/200), but smaller boats at a larger scale. The Wiesel's 1/40 scale is my limit and a good compromise.

I populated mine with 1/35 scale figures by taking a sawcut (about 1/16 inch) through the waist to shorten them a bit.

See Little Canada,

I know one of the creative illustrators. He might be willing to help you with doing this too. It involves more than one might consider. James was telling me, vehicles will approach a stop sign, with the turn signal on, come to stop, then turn the direction of the turn signal.

Thanks Ronald!
Can you read minds? 😮😮😮😮
I was thinking the same thing, and this confirms my thoughts!
Thank you for your ideas.
Yours, Michel-C.

Actually your little harbour folks add realism to an otherwise empty space. Now I know you Swiss can do some amazing things, so how about making them animated? Put a jogger in there running laps around the area. Or those outdoor exercise pads with people working out. Maybe a dog walker.

My Christmas present

Hello, everyone!
We've put aside the tradition of gifts among adults, but it remains for our grandchildren.
Honestly, it's Christmas all year round for me, because when I need to, I buy myself little things. There is a ‘but’ in the background, because my wife has given me clear guidelines that until all the shipwrecks in the basement have been brought back to life, I am not allowed to buy anything.
In addition, she always has little ideas, or rather wishes, for existing ships. .
Sometimes they are feasible, but others are rejected. . In winter we have time for this, as we have given up skiing.
Until further notice, we have closed our boatyard. . However, small soldering jobs and minor improvements can be done in between.
We wish you all a happy New Year in 2026. Enjoy it with your family, friends and us hobbyists here.
Bye bye yours Michel-C.
Ps: My wife's request: 🙈🙈🙈
the stern wheel steamer absolutely needs a sunshade.
My laser did a great job!
. . . . And my harbour folk just stand there looking stupid!
