Decent quality BRASS FITTINGS.

Thanks Gary. Yes, I've done quite a lot of Internet searching on and off and is often the case can't find exactly what I want or if something close it's out of stock and has been for sometime!

Just spent sometime turning my workroom upside down to find the brass rod and tube I knew I'd got somewhere and with those and other pieces I should be able to make what is needed but will have another look.

Hi Chris, in my internet searches for brass fittings I came across several different types of brass model hinges, which would look rather nice on a walnut rudder. I just thought I would share that with you in passing. Regards, Gary. (the photo of the day is a North Sea Drifter.)

Hi Gary, that is a very generous offer and much appreciated. If it was only for one model and the fairleads were bigger then I'd love to take you up on it.

But as I said I've got seven models to fit out at a scale of 1:12 and so the fairleads are quite small. I've just had a look at the samples of the ones I've obtained and they aren't bad at all - better than a lot you see advertised and go well with things like the throttle that I've made.

Photo shows a 12mm one in place on my little Fairey Faun.

I haven’t got a lathe or milling machine but I like making the odd parts in brass - just about to look at making the hinges/pintles for the rudder for my Fisherman build.

That's another nice model you have.

Hi Chris, and thanks for that, when you need either fairleads or bollards, (in BRASS,) give me a shout and I will make them for you and put them in the post. I will just need to know the length and height. I have ordered the brass this evening (metals4U) is very good as you can order short lengths. I have ordered 1/4" x 3/4" for the fairleads, which will be about 1" in length overall. Regards, Gary. ( As you might be getting a bit fed up with open launches, some thing a bit different. Regards, Gary.

Oh yes, has to be brass for your launch, it's lovely.

Someone I know fashioned fairleads by filing down electrical plug pins - OK if I just needed them for one boat but I'm on my seventh! Did get a couple of plastic ones from Cornwall model boats as a sample and they aren't too bad so will probably go with those.

Hi Chris, yes I agree with you one hundred percent, in the fact that everything else seems to be out there except for fairleads and bollards, it certainly is a bit of a mystery. Maybe some one is stock piling them, as per the toilet rolls when there is a flu epidemic doing the rounds. The mind boggles does it not? For me it has to be brass too match the copper and brass of the steam plant. Regards. Gary.

I'm having the same problem Gary. Brass would be nice but not essential for my builds. You can get lots of other parts like stantions, wheels and the like in brass but for some reason not things like fairleads, bollards etc. Some of the plastic ones are so weak they break easily.

I'm amazed at how they make some of the things in brass as some parts are so small.

Many thanks to Jump / Tim / and Denis, I have given you suggestions a really good coat of looking at, and I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to find what I am looking for. So as the old adage goes, if you want something doing properly then do it your self, and with that in mind I will get on to metals4U, and order the brass required. As I have both a lathe and a milling machine this hopefully will not be to difficult, time will tell. Regards, Gary.

Hi GaryLC! Definitely try modelexpo.com fittings page. They now own and carry all the old Model Shipways parts. Hope this helps.

Decent quality BRASS FITTINGS.

Can anyone out there in the ether help me to find some decent quality brass fittings, as in fairleads and bollards for my current open launch. It would appear that all my current sources are no longer trading, and everything available appears to be plastic. If anyone out there can help me out I shall be forever grateful. Regards, Gary.
