They are "Wooden Boats", but not scale models ...

Hsailer,

I'm afraid he knows where I live. 🙄
If one of those came up missing after a visit by me, I'm afraid I'd be found out in a hurry. 🤕
I know how much he gets ($$$) to bring those boats back to that level of quality.
I'm afraid visiting his shop, and drooling is as close as I'll ever get.
However, he did indicate that he'd like to take my wife and I out on his 31' boat 🚤 this summer.
I'm not sure what his boat is, but I'm anxious to find out!!

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Wonderful pix Dave!!!

They reminded me about a cantankerous old fella who lived across the street from me when I was a kid, "Crazy" George Swenson, who was a builder for Bertram Yachts. He became one of their greatest craftsmen and after a time his reputation grew so great that buyers would ask if it was a "Swenson" build.

After he retired from Bertram and moved across the street he became a foreman in the home construction industry. I was told that developers would ask George to estimate a lumber supplies list for a home build and when the build was done all that would be left when construction was complete would be a 2 foot 2" x 4."
Waste not want not.

My favorite personal experiences with George was when my Dad purchased a 22 foot Bertram runabout. But, whenever he wanted to work on the boat George would run out of his house and scream at my father about all things he was doing wrong! It was certainly a learning experience and the foundation for my love of wooden boats!!!!!
👍😉

Hi Dave
There are not many things I enjoy more than sticking my nose into a boatbuilder’s workshop and inhaling the mix of specific scents. Thanks for the visual enjoyment! The link to Pedrazzini gives you a glimpse into the world of a Swiss boatbuilder.

By the way, we Swiss – living far from anything like salt water – are a very nautical bunch. The Cruing Club Switzerland, which accomodates the blue-water sailors, has about 6000 members and with Pierre Fehlmann (winner of the Whitbread Round the World race) and Ernesto Bertarelli (winner of the Americas Cup) we can compete with the key sailing nations.

Good to see traditional craftsmanship being carried out to a high standard.
Scratch building 7 Faireys at a scale of 1:12

I have a friend who's business is restoring full sized wooden boats.
Whenever I visit his shop, I am amazed at the detail and workmanship.
Last week, he called me and offered some Mahogany that is in good condition, but the pieces are too small for what he does, but plenty big for model building.
I asked if I could sneak a couple pics of work in process at his shop.
One is ready for delivery, two are in process, and several are patiently waiting their turn.
I didn't grab many pictures, but here is a sampling.

PS, my friend has hundreds of model boats on display at his home ... he has a VERY understanding wife 🤣
