Yes, ALL brass. I think it was home built by the previous owner who was a machinist by trade. Design similar in some ways to a Stuart 501 but also with some differences.
I will post more as I get it cleaned up and pressure tested

Yes the safety valve looks to be Stuart but I have never seen a Stuart boiler like this. I have a couple of 501's and the 5 tubes on this one look very much like the 501. BUT this boiler is ALL brass no copper. Looks to have a couple of stay rods with nuts on either end that tie the end caps to the boiler body. Never seen one like that.

Hello all I am looking for some help possibly identifying this steamship - or steam boat. I was told it was built in the late forties - early fifties. I am not sure if a kit or more likely from plans. I believe it may have had a structure above the deck?
Engine is of course a Stuart D10. Any ideas on the boiler? It is all brass not copper. Has 5 tubes below the tank like a Stuart 501 as well as circular tube coil at the far end. Has a steel tray for fuel. Possibly a cotton bat soaked in alcohol?

Looks to me like one of the nicest ponds for model boating. Visibility like a swimming pool. Would make it great to spot a sunken vessel. Likely a good training ground for novice submariners!

I have been curious about these "oily" glues. Are the a form of CA? Do they dry hard or flexible?

    Hello Tim,
The stock drive train is sort of crude. A Dumas gear setup would be much "quieter". I keep the gears well coated in grease and that helps. It's a fun boat for being just a large plastic model. In my harbor you can see another PT that I turned into a wood decked runabout.

Here is a steam launch I am working on. Been a few years in the making, working on it when I have time.
Hull is a Diana 50" by Hartman fiberglass. Engine is a Krick/Wilesco Model II. I had initially planned to use the Krick/Wilesco boiler but it does not produce enough steam volume. So I am now using a Cheddar Puffin 9 flue vertical boiler. 15lbs of lead roofing sheet required for ballast.

I have been to the Elk Grove Park a few times. The members of the Sacramento Model Shipwrights were very welcoming. They are a little over an hour away from where I live but worth the drive. I only wish I could get free on Friday mornings more often.
If you are in Northern California this is a great group to check out.

I picked up a Lindberg PT model but it was missing too many parts to make complete. As I already have a complete PT Boat, I decided to "Kit Bash" this one into a runabout.

Wish I had known of this event. I may have tried to attend as I am currently up in Pickering Ontario on business. Only about an hour and a half away.
Some fine looking boats. Is this a club organized event? Is there a schedule available?

Some brushless controllers I have had require some setup. Try turning on the transmitter with throttle stick in neutral.
Plug in the battery on the boat. Turn the on/off switch to on if it has one.
When you hear the first beep put the throttle stick up to full, then full down to what would be reverse. Then back to neutral.
If it makes a series of beeps following this procedure you may be in luck. Try easing up on the throttle again and hopefully it will work. If the motor turns the wrong way just reverse any two of the three wires and that should fix it. Good Luck!

Also be aware some brushless speed controllers have a low voltage cutoff threshold. Could potentially leave you "adrift" should your brushless motor pull your NiMH down too quickly.
Some programmable controllers also have battery "type" selectability.

Yea really sorry i missed this one. I have a Midwest fantail launch that I lengthened by 8 inches amidships and this would have been perfect for it. This body of this one was 3" diameter and 7" tall.
Hoping someone here has an idea who made this one or possibly has one or one similar they might be interested in selling.
