Very sad and an awful demise if not found. Their family members must be devastated. Less accidents happen in space!

I am about to start a 39" Dry Martini Offshore vintage project. Had the stuff for 20 years but life got in the way of it.
Got an SC .61 going in it with Prestwich Models surface drive hardware and tabs.

Mate of mine has a sign shop with a vinyl printer/cutter so he's going to be busy making all the decals for me.

In the process of renovating this very old boat. Stripped out the the box construction inner to leave the skins showing. I am going to try and make this as authentic as possible from old photographs of the full size craft.

This boat started life as a cheap chinese import with substandard radio and unfinished deck detailing. It was white plastic finish and the usual stern tube set up with i/c motor and flexible coupling. I recognised the boat configuration as the Gancia dei Gancia offshore racer and decided to make it just that. I set about fitting a flexible transom mounted drive with Octura x40 prop. The decals I ordered from Japan and luckily they still had these in stock as their own Gancia model kit had been discontinued for almost 20 years.

I sold a Taycol Standard on Ebay about 10 years ago and got ยฃ34 for it.
I will tell you the wierdest of stories. When I was 8 years old, my father (still going strong now) made me a 36" Daytona Cabin Cruiser which was B and B constructed from an old pair of wardrobes so it was massively heavy and completely underpowered by a Taycol Star which ran on a large Eveready block battery. We used to sail it in the paddling pool in Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich. That was in the late 1960's. in 1991 I moved to Bournemouth and bought my property in Southbourne in Cranleigh Road, near to the junction with Beaufort Road and my rear garden backs onto the gardens in Lingdale Road. Check out the Google Map and Taycol booklet I have uploaded.๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

I have one in the loft but not as nice as yours and mine is 1" per foot scale so not as chunky.

    Lovely boat!๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Š

I used to live in West Bromwich and regularly made the trip to Walsall to SH Graingers to lust over the 36" Black Cigarette they had in the window. I remember the Surfury being available to scratch build on MAP plans and I was put off as it was a planked hull so never made one. Nice models, especially like the Irvine powered boat, nothing like the smell and noise of a 10cc glowplug engine at full tilt.

None I'm afraid as I am in the UK. There should be some stuff on the internet about the full sized craft and from the pictures it would be a fairly straightforward project to restore her yourself and then you would not want to part with her.

I lived in West Bromwich until I was 30 years old (53 now and living in Bournemouth) and I regularly took the bus to Walsall to SH Graingers and dreamed of owning a Surfury or Cigarette but as a kid it was always financially beyond me. The boat in your post (or one exactly like it) if I am not mistaken is a Cigarette offshore racer and took pride of place in the window. SHG mail ordered this boat to customers all over the UK and beyond and they manufactured the kit from a small industrial unit in Telford Shropshire for many years. There were always adverts and features about this model in the MAP Model Boats Mags which I subscribed to for years. Brings back glorious memories of sailing in Redhill Park Great Barr and Witton lakes in Birmingham.
This boat is well worth the effort saving. Pop a .40 glow motor into it with an Octura stern drive and see it fly. Great project, I am completely envious.
