Shrimp fishing boat Capt CJ
I purchased this scale boat back in 2021 from an old gentleman who has researched, designed and scratch built it ( and many others ) to represent an actual boat that was located in Pine Island Florida.
It is powered by a water cooled brushless motor. Battery is a 2S ( 7.4 v ) LiPo battery ( a 3S was way too much for it ) and it is still very fast. I run it at scale speed and the duration approaches an hour run time ( including headlights. I also have an FPV camera which I use occasionally. It is solid in the water and handles waves well. Just a fun ship.
Unfortunatly, the real boat was destroyed during hurricane Ian in 2022.

Fun at the lake
Fun at the park. A big lake and nice day to run the boat at the Wellen Park in Florida. The owner of the bike and kayak shop took this video of my shrimp boat Capt CJ (it is a scale boat; the full boat was destroyed during hurricane Ian a couple of years ago).
here is the link. I don't know how to copy the video by itself.

A couple of months ago I let a young boy run my torpedo boat under my supervision. In one of the runs he glanced the boat to the side of the dock and one of the guns snapped off and fell into the water. Oh well.
Anyhow, I was looking at the original model guns and they were really a pawn chess piece base with a metal punch for a gun. Not scale.
I decided to make a close enough scale Hotchkiss gun. Not exact, but better looking.
the pics of the gun schematic with the original chess piece gun and my new ones made of wood will be attached later since the current location does not have the needed signal strength.

Why take the electronic fan apart? Why not use it as is and run it off a 2S battery to cool the entire compartment ( motors and ESCs ). Or a separate more powerful motor with a fan ( you also need to vent the compartment to expel the heat overboard ).
Also, you may want to see if that fan mounted on the motor that close is really cooling the motors ( you need a surface thermometer ). It may generate more heat than it cools ( there is no such thing as free energy ).
Small air ๐cooling fans are used on closely coweled aircraft engines ( like the Focke Wulf 190 ), but fans are more effective against a radiator cooler.
I really don't know where things are better, but I agree that cooling motors is important. Water cooling is best if you can do it. My big 3 brushed motors has no room to coil water lines around them. But I really want to cool them, thus I am interested in what you find.

Here is your your statement " Holland is not an entire country below sea level. Only 25% of it is below current sea levels. The Dutch coastline is also only a fraction of that of Florida."
Florida is also not all at sea level. Mostly coastal areas are vulnerable. The size of Florida is not an issue as canal and flood control system can be built individually. It can be done! All we need is to have the government shift priorities before we turn to "Water World".

My point is not my roof or my insurance ( my home was built less than 4 years ago ). It is about the government of Florida not doing their job in protecting it's inhabitants. They can work on the insurance scams and also built better flood protection plans.

Let me diverge for a short while.
The unfortunate aspect of the current politics, is spending resources on fighting Micky Mouse and Florida school boards instead of fixing the insurance scams and improving flood prevention projects.
Just look at Holland. An entire country at sea level and no more floods. Canals, gates and huge infrastructure to address it all.
Now back to the safety of our boats.

As soon as insurance gets involved, my premiums will go up. I'm waiting for a proposal from a roofer that came over to inspect it this morning. Then depending on the amount, I will decide how to pay for it. My Home Owners Association (HOA) already said they will not pay for it. So I need to discuss it with my insurrer.
Bottom line is that all of Florida will be under water permanently. It is only a matter of time. Hopefully, this will occur long after I am gone. And if it happens sooner, I would pick up and leave it to the alligators to take over once more.๐๐๐
Cheers

Recall me questioning your use of 5S battery?
In my opinion a 3S battery for that size boat is all you need.
I think the over voltage of the 5S battery has overwhelmed the ESC and it went into some sort of defensive mode and cut the power to the motor.

We got wacked with Ian two years ago. The path kept changing and we got hit. We evacuated a day before it hit for fear of flooding. Some damage to the home and my RV.
This one looks like it will steer well north of both of us. But lots of rain and winds.
Be safe as well
Thanks

The 5C rating is for the battery ability to provide a surge of power. Normally LiPo batteries are in the 10C,20C, 30C and up. But for a large boat a small number is best.
but, my question is about the voltage. Do you mean 5S instead? that is more in line with the 19 volts you are replacing.
And regarding the voltage, my 3 motor torpedo boat at 6 ft 5 inches long weighing close to 25 lbs, I run it on a 2S or 3S LiPo battery ( that is 7 or 11 volts ). At 11 volts, it feels like it is running way too fast for me.

19 volts for the motor? Wow. Thatโs a ton of volts. How big and how heavy is your boat.
Normally LiPo batteries are approx 7, 11 or 14 volts and that is a 2S, 3S or 4S size.
At 19 volts, the boat will be flying.

Yes, I did see that video a few weeks ago.
However, the gear tooth missing is so tiny, that my shaky hands will not be able to glue it in place properly or at all.
For now, letโs see how the cleaned up and lubricated gears work and for how long.
Thanks , I wish I could do it.

During the gearbox inspection, I noted one of the large plastic gear missing a tooth. That is the source of the noise. I do not have a method to repair it, so I lubricated the gears with a generous amount of marine grease... Hopefully it will last a few more years. I also reduced the battery voltage to 2S ( 7.4 volts ) instead of the 3S.
I still need to see if there is a great affect on the boat's speed in the water.

I tested the boat after the repair in my pond at my backyard. I applied forward power, but then reversed it to maneuver. Everything stopped and no response from the boat. No power at all.
Removed the boat from the water and back to the bench for diagnostics.
I found the 30 amp fuse blown.
Not sure if it happened as a result of the motor disconnecting earlier, or maybe a piece of the gear tooth jammed the gears.
I did turn the prop manually and no issues. I then installed a jumper cable at the fuse harness and it ran fine again.
I ordered more fuses and will test again.
Running the motors on 3S LiPo battery
Approx 14-16 volts
I will reduce to 2S 7.4 volts to see if it is better for the system.
Who knows. Itโs a fishing expedition ๐๐๐

๐ Motor mount repair

The two screws holding the brushed motor to the orange gearbox backed off completely.
Unfortunately there is no access to their screws because the builder glued the wood part after the assembly was bolted together.
I had to break off the wood plate. Amazingly it separated cleanly at its original lines.
I now separated the assembly, cleaned the plastic gear and noted one tooth was mostly missing. Oh well. This is an old Robbe gearbox, and I just lubricated the gears and closed it all up.
It works fine, but is noisy.
I then reconnected the coupling and applied a generous amount of epoxy back to the wood mounting plate.
All fine. A bit noisy, but ok. Letโs see how long it lasts.

๐ Loose motor

I went yesterday to the lake with the big Torpedo boat.
As I checked the boat prior to launch, I noticed that the number 3 motor was loose off the gearbox housing. I had no tools, so I hand tighten it. Bad idea!
The run in the water went great. All fun.
I then returned after 10 minutes as it somehow slowed down.
Results: the motor completely disengaged. At least I had two more motored to rerun to port.
Home for repairs.
I will explain the repairs next.

I replaced the radio with yet again another radio. This one was Flysky 5 channel surface radio. I did it because the old Spectrum receiver went dead in the middle of the lake. This new one is working great. I liked it so much, I purchased 5 more receivers and converted 4 more boats to that system. Transmitter has 20 model memory.
$70 USD on Amazon.
