1/48 Flower Class Corvette
Preparing to build a 1/48 scale WW2 Flower Class Corvette, just recieved the hull from Fleetscale excellent quality also purchased from them was the prop shaft, prop, and stuffing box and rudder.
The materials and craftsmanship on these are priceless. The motor is a MFA/ combo drills 12v D.C. pt No. 457-RE800 and I plan on using a Viper marine 40 amp Mtroniks speed control perhaps a little overkill.

Very interesting Doug not to go on and on Since the seamanβs storyβs I was told are way to colorful for this site, but your mention of Oman reminded me of my birthday August 1944 my old man told me he was in Oran unloading and on the 11th of August a bird flew in to his cabin thatβs my birthday. Have a Good evening Mike

The kits came with the tapered masts. I did have make one of the masts over as it was warped. What I did was purchase a 1/2β hard wood dowel marked the center and smaller diameter on one end then used a small razor plane to taper it to almost the shape I needed then cut the lenth just a bit longer so I could fit it into my 1/2 drill chock fastened the drill to my work bench and used it like a makeshift lath then used sandpaper to smooth and shape the final taper needed. Hope this helps Mike

Very nicely done l have built two Emma C Berryβs one free sail the other r/c with auxiliary electric motor the both sail nicely. Sterling also produced the Yacht America in the same scale size as the Emma C Berry. I have that as well set up with r/c and auxiliary power. Iβve raced them against each other about equal in speed. Both have removable keels.

π Steam whistle sound with smoke

Just pondering how one would set up and sincrconize a simulated steam whistle. Since Iβm not running on steam I could use smoke from my smoke unit and of course a steam sound module. Any ideas as how To do this? My thought was using the RAM ship whistle which works with a micro switch. One servo would control both the whistle and at the same time release squeezing off neoprene tubing would allow smoke to issue out the whistle. Anyone thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Yes Deepdiver, the rudder is offset on the and liberty and made of cast concrete in two sections for fuel efficiency which I understand saved thousands of gallons of fuel, since I,m not worried about the mileage Iβm just going to simulate the rebar on the rudder for scale affect. I foolded a brass sheet over into a streamline air foil shape and sandwiched a piece 1/8β brass rod for the post. Just a point of interest the American aircraft carrier based Corsair had 2 degrees of offset built into the vertical
Fin as well as a rudder trim tab to compensate for the torque. I just returned from Baltimore where my wife and I took a 8hr day trip on the John W. Brown one of 3 remaining working WW2 Libertyships.
