Great video, is that the boat pond on New Brighton front where I spent many a happy time back in the early 50's sailing my toy yacht whilst staying with my Gran in Birkenhead during the school summer holidays, it was seeing a large steam powered model of the I believe the Queen Mary sailing there that started my love of model boats.

This fantastic display must be preserved intact for the nation,I saw this display and chated to Philip Warren some years back at the old Weymouth International Model Boat Festival ,and that collection is a national treasure and should be kept together.

Oh yes I remember the old New Brighton model boat lake,we used to stay with my gran in Birkenhead in the late forties early fifties,my Dad bought an old second hand Star yacht in the old Birkehead indoor market ,and I spent many happy hours sailing it at New Brighton,it was seeing some of the big scale models there that I believe sowed
the seed for my later interest in mode boating.

When ever I went to watch the competitions straight running,it never seemed noisy to me ,and the pond was not particularly near to housing, and the large properties around there seem to have large gardens and you can bet a few of them will be merrily motor mowing ,strimming or leaf blowing on a Sunday afternoon.Sadly now the pond is a shadow of what it was a the edges all over grown and it seems to have shrunk in size the last time I looked at it .

Sorry no photos ,but I remember back in the late 60's early 70's spending some enjoyable Sunday afternoons sitting by the pond with my wife and children watching the straight running events against the Victoria club I believe,so
that and seeing a guy with radio control air sea rescue launch got me started building model boats something which I had last done as a nipper.Does the King's mere club still exist, last time I went by the pond a few years back it had shrunk in size and was very overgrown around the edges.

The position of the forward gun tub would depend on the years the earlier boats it was further forward then they were moved slightly further aft later on.

Hi,
I like the article it has reactivated my interest in in restoring an old Aerokits P.T. boat hull I was given about five years back it had originally ran with a diesel engine but the hull is sound, there are no upperworks just the hull with no hatch covering so it will be a deck up new build just need to get some plans now,I like the gun mountings where did you purchase those, look forward to further updates.
