Hi guys Iβm in the process of building this rc balsa wood boat, was wondering how to finish it before painting, fiberglass? Or β¦β¦β¦
Will I need to do the whole boat or just the parts that come in contact with the water?

Please forgive me guys, as Iβve stated in previous posts, Iβm a complete novice
My question is, once you have built the boat (using balsa and ply) what needs to be done to make it waterproof and ready for paint?
There are tiny daylight gaps that need filling etcπ
Can anyone give me advice on the steps to take?
Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks mate, I bought it in lidl, (as I work there) will get a refund
I see a lot of sanders with exact same design as the park side so Iβm staying clear of them, such as the WEN Clark and lumberjack versions

Hi guys, bought me a park side belt sander witch failed after 3 days. It was fantastic while it lasted, but the top belt housing came in contact with the belt sander and sparks flew everywhere!! On inspection of the belt plate it was unrepairable
Can anyone recommend a good belt plus disc bench top sander?

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping to get names of the best brands of cutting mats and pin pushers!! I know that there are a few with bad reviews, I just wanted names of reputable companies. Bognor is very far from me but it does look like a real Aladdinβs cave of modelling bits, will give them business at some point.
Thanks again for the link buddy π

Hi guys, been looking online for a self healing cutting mat and a pin pusher but Iβm getting lots of indifferent reviews
Can anyone recommend a tried and tested cutting mat and where to purchase
Also in regards to a pin pusher, ideally one that can penetrate birch ply for sheet hulls (not planks)
Many thanks guys

Thanks for the support guys!! Really appreciate it
Got a couple of questions
Can I glue 2 lite ply sheets together to make my surface longer, or would that jeopardise strength?
Also, when planking the hull is there a way to hide the plank lines so it looks all one piece? Many thanks for your continued support guysπ

Hi guys!! So my first build is nearly about to commence!!!!
Some of you may know that I was wanting to build a static roro ferry but Iβve decided that I need to gain knowledge of the whole modelling process.
I managed to obtain a hull template from Google and Iβm getting ready to start the build.
Iβm a novice at it at the moment so forgive me if I sound clueless!!
Im using birch ply,( gonna do the planking in Balsa.) My plan is to give the finished article to my nephew.
I started by making the templates from the drawing out of cardboard (a pizza box hahahaha) Iβve bought myself a few bits and pieces to get started, Iβll list them now and maybe you guys can see if Iβve missed anything.
. Dremmel
. Scalpel number 3 and 4
. Xacto knife
. Fret saw
. David wood plane
. Assortment of files
. Bosh home and garden jig saw
. Ply wood jig blades
. Gourella glue
. Set square
. Magic tape
. Zona razor saw
. Quick grip clamps.
Iβll send you a pic of my hull templates below

Hi guys, so Iβm nearly ready to attempt my first build.
Thought Iβd start with a hull that I have obtained templates for. Is it ok to make the Hull out of lite ply and then plank with balsa? Thanks for your continued support guys

Thanks Tim, Iβm a complete newbie. I used to make boats out of cereal boxes as a young boy lol
Iβve been interested in woodwork for years but with very little knowledge or skill!! Iβm finally in a position to really get stuck in and Iβm like a kid in a sweet shop as I gather info!! Thanks everyone for the replies, so maybe balsa is not the way forward then, I want to use wood that I can cut on a scroll saw (dremmel version)

Thanks for the info.
I was going to use the dremmel saw for the cuts.
Basically I want to do a model roro ferry and it will be for show rather than used for working. Iβll have it flat on the bottom on a sheet of wood to mimic it sailing the sea (if that makes sense. Iβm thinking of doing the Irish ferries boat isle of innishmore

Hi guys, Iβm new here.
Was wondering if I could use balsa wood for an entire boat build, also, what type is best to use thickness wise. I will be cutting with a scroll saw
Also, what are the alternatives to balsa in model boat making
