Sea trials complete, crew assigned, christened the Walter.B. Shes ready for service.
The Walter.B is a fictional twin azimuth drive coastal escort tug owned by the fictional Canadian Superior Towing company. Her home port is Thunder Bay Ontario making her one of the larger Tugs operating on Lake Superior. She weighs in at 32Lbs or 15 Kg, with a 12v 1400mAh power system. She has Operational Cabin, deck and navigation lights, Radars, a spot light, Main deck winch, Fire monitors and anchor, as well as smoke and sound systems. In all I have used 16 different channels on this model and it has taken approx. 10 months to build. This includes about 40 3d printed parts and other customizations. Custom decals were designed by me and printed by Callie graphics. Thank you to all who followed this build, see you on the next one.

After a unsuccessful maiden on Sunday, plagued by leaks, faulty bilge pump, uncooperative fire pumps and a twitch winch motor (all worked fine on the bench). After a quick return to the shop I set out for another Maiden and she passed her sea trials while sailing in heavy seas. I still have a bit of leaking when the water passes over the deck but nothing the automatic bilge pump can't deal with.

Sorry about the video angle, I forgot to bring a stand for it

Thanks Mike, I have written to them hoping to get them to ship one to the UK. Despite being an aeromodeller for 50yrs I know little about boats. Your pictures have helped me loads in deciding what to do next ! Yours is the inspiration to keep going. I have a long way to go yet !

In the past few weeks I've been working on the last of the electrical functions, I'm up to 15 channels and I think the last one will be for the search light lamp. The wheel house is now completed and all the deck railings are installed. The mast light are working and have a switch for off, towing, and restricted movement signals as well as the anchor lamp which is tigered by my anchor, perhaps I'll get the tow lights to be triggered buy the tow motor. I have cleaned up the wiring and made a break out box to disconnect the cabin from the haul. I also 3d printed some equipment boxes that will double as camera mounts

@RodC on the mast I have three white lights in front, they along with the yellow light on the back of the upper deck signal that the boat is engaged in towing operations. The red a white lights on the side of the mast signal that the boats maneuvering is restricted (in reality I think the red and white lights are only on one side of the mast but the kit had both sides). On the mast end is a white light that signal the ship is at anchor. This as per the resurch I found.

Absolutely astounding model Westwind - you must be as shattered as that crewman in the cabin, and with the patience of a saint to make it so realistic. You are now going to need some suitable tows - how about a complex oil rig, and just for fun make it flare and light up????!!!!

In the past few weeks I've been picking away at the cabin and wheel house, I have done a lot of 3d printing for the interiors some my creation and some free downloads. I'm just about ready to put it all together.

I've been working away at getting the wiring and equipment under the deck cleaned up, including the addition of a smoker. I've also completed the main winch other then the motors for it and painted the cabin area. Lastly I've assembled the wheel house. The boat is really taking shape now.

Have not gotten much actual building done on my Jonny, but I did get the hull painted and about 90% of the hulls electronics in and tested. So far everything is working out well, with the exception of the belt and timing belt pull that I have had to order again.

Hi all, I started a new build during Christmas and I'm just about ready to start painting the haul so I figured its a good time to get the build log going.

I've had this kit for about a year now, purchased from Bauer in Germany along with with the recommended equipment including their Schottel Drive system. The plan is to have the two Schottel drives, a bow thruster, one working Anchor (possibly two in the future of off the same winch), a sound system, two working radars, working spot light with pivot in pitch and yaw, always on nav lights and interior lights, RC working main winch and manually operated bow and side winches, tow separate working fire monitors able to rotate individually, possibly a smoke generator and final an auto bilge system This comes to a total of 18 RC, unfortunately I only have 16 available so we will have to see what ends up in the ship๐Ÿค”.

So far I have the drives and bow thruster all fit and ready for assembly. I then built up the frame work and made the holes for the fire pumps and bilge. then had to build the lower deck house so I could fit the deck in the right place on the ship. Once the deck was dry fit I cut the scuppers then glued the deck down. I then set to work making the deck splash proof by installing and extending the kits coaming. I also add a drop floor under the aft hatch that I'm hoping will allow me to keep the water that gets on the deck from leaking down into the haul. Now I've got the Bulwark stanchions and handrails just about complete. I also started work on some of the deck items as I need the locations to work out some of the modifications I'm working through.

I hope to start painting the haul soon, I'm going to try brush painting this ship as I was able to find some nice paints at an Art supply store and I don't have much access to a place to spray paint in the winter. I do think I will spray on the primer first and hope it helps absorbed some of the brush marks.

    Hi Isaac

I'm using a FrSky system its a bit pricy but I use it for my helicopters and planes. I can combine two 8 CH RXs to get 16CH and redundancy so if one fails the other will take over. my setup is and X10S radio and two RX8R Pro receivers. I think you can get up to 24 channels with their newest systems.

As for the drive system I'm using the recommended setup from Bauer Models, see link below. the plan is to use two forward only running ESC and Two 360 deg servos. Through mixing on my radio I will get forward speed above mid point on my throttle stick and when below mid I plan to have the 2 Schottel drives rotate 180 Deg in opposite directions and apply throttle to the motors thus driving the boat backward I will have to use a V curve in my throttle set up, and I will have to program a Mix into my steering channel that will allow this and still provide left and right steering capability. In theory it should be possible, but if not I will have to get ESC with forward and reverse functions and limit the steering to 90 deg left and right.
