Hi everyone. Back with a new build. I figured that I would use the hull I have laying around (from a Graupner Commodore) to build the boat I enjoyed as a kid. Our family boat that was a kit boat built by my father in the early 60's in the Yukon. She is a Glen -L Marine design called the "Gung Ho' She is 28' in length. My fathers boat was powered by twin Grey Marine Fireball V8's. That is me as a boy sitting on her bow on the lakes in the Yukon. Then in Prince Rupert, BC at the yacht club. Following are her study drawings. Our boat was not build exactly the same you may notice. More to come of course. Will be working on setting the hull up for twin rudders, etc. I will resin the cabin when the weather allows. Then build the upper windscreen and roof. Of course work on the interior of the aft cockpit as well. cheers and welcome to 2025.

Some pics of the original build in 1961before her aft cockpit roof was added and her colour changes made. She got up on step pretty good.

    Well said Flaxy...

Just the conversation with my brother recalling when we took her out was just a great laugh and special moment.

    Ian,

Cool story. I have the Glen L plan books. I am sure you still have your plans. But here is the Glen-L page from the book.

Glen L designed some great boats and I have a story to tell as well about Glen L. Back in the mid sixties Myself, my brother and mate built Thunderbolt, one of Glen L's drag boats. It turned out well but here in New Zealand it wasn't easy to find used V8 engines of the size 427 CI that it was designed for so we settled for a Plymouth V8 about 250 CU. Anyway enough on that but I built a model of it some years ago and RC it so I will do a more detailed story on it later. But for now your model looks great, well done. Cheers Ian ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

That is a nice looking powerboat - at first glance the cabin has some lines that look a little like those of a Fairly Marine design - very nice!๐Ÿ‘

This is just the way it should be when model boat building. Not only the sentimental attachment with photos of you on the boat as a young boy, but plans to help you reconstruct Gung Ho the way you remembered it.
You then have all the fun and satisfaction of building the model, fitting it out and painting it followed by trials and finally sailing her (or him). I'm sure you will feel an immense sense of pride when she is finished. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Way cool! It will be a great build & bring back many memories for you. Iโ€™ve usually (not always) had some sort of past attachment to my builds.
