Here are some pics of the completed project and a link to a video of the underwater camera footage. Due to the waves the boat was bobbing around a lot, i will have to think of a way to absorb the up and down motion to get steadier footage.

Hi, as far as forward and aft movement i.e. bobbing up and down. It might help to redistribute the various heavy bits inside the model. If you distribute the weight to the extreme ends then you have a 'dumbell' effect as against all the weight in the centre which would be like a see saw.

Joshua Slocum when he reached his first stop said how badly the rocking motion was on his yacht. He was advised to re-stow his tinned food at the ends of the yacht and he reported that the yacht was much more comfortable to sail.

These are the extremes but follow the principle.

I did see a solution to side to side motion but it may not suit your model. This to have a tube probably at least 3+ cm wide with baffles across the inside with holes in and half fill it with water and have it across the central part of the boat and as high as possible without it causing a cap size. Then as the water tries to flow either way it is slowed down by the baffles. This acts to slow down the side to side motion.

    Good luck
    Roy

You have come a long, long way with this model. It looks very stately. I like what youโ€™ve created with this Neptune. Itโ€™s not a ski boat, but a proper sailing vessel.

I found a small leak around the prop shaft and had to remove all the Ballast to get it repaired. I also sanded and spraied the haul with some new colours and gave the decks a new coat of paint. The real decision was what to do with this boat, I have designed and printed a crane system that I hope will alow me to drop a gopro camera and take picks 20-30 feet under water.
Next up i have to deisign and build a winch.

Looking awesome WW! Love the GoPro idea. Very interested in your progress as I hope to build one someday. Lost out on one 2 weeks ago on EBay, but hope springs eternal.
    Keep those pix coming!

Hello, I've been given this ship and would like to refit and refloat her. I don't have any info on the ship but I plan to out fit with new parts mostly 3d printed. Would anyone have any info on the ship or maybe the time lines she represents, (1960s ?). Thanks for any info

When you do put her in the water, please, please, sail it as the stately workhorse that carries freight to small ports of call at a calm steady as she goes pace.

When you go surfing the YouTube videos, you will see the Neptun as a vessel able to tow a school of water-skiers doing tricks upon its wake.

Please resist the urge and sail her more stately!

Graupner Neptune is the kit, the super structure could be placed aft or mid-ship

you can find several YouTube videos of this model.

Looks to me more of a phantasy model rather than an accurate scale model. The hull and hatch configuration appears to be an approx 2-3000 tdw vessel. The superstructure with 4 decks would be too large for that size. Also suspiciously it lacks lifeboats. The funnel insignia is similar like those of Peter Doehle in Hamburg. Some fittings on deck like pollers are too small in comparison. Have a look at a brochure from PD showing an earlier Bulk carrier with a bucket self unloading system. Could be the builder using the original from a photo as inspiration rather than true scale model.

Looks like the Graupner Neptun kit 2144 I was given a couple years ago. It sailed well though not in a cross wind. I sold it as it needed a person who could develop it into more than a bulk carrier without cranes.
