    Hi GC Ladd,
I'm glad you are now inspired to finish your model, the things we do in life are often limited by 3 things, Time, Money and Motivation.
It sounds like you have done a lot of work on the craft, you just got to bring it all together for the final push.

    Good Luck

20th Scale ELCO 80ft PT boat part 29

Hi There Shipmates,
Have added the large Engine hatch to the back of the Dayroom cabin, so that the two act as the main access to the boats hardware.
Also started on the Dayroom's Turret made from a 60mm pipe joint,
after marking position, I cut away the corner of the Dayroom and glued in position.

Still cannot get the hang of uploading pictures in the right order.

Roy

20th Scale ELCO 80ft PT boat part 31

Started work on the Helm.
Finding this part difficult, as using various sources of information.
Have made some major mistakes with the build but building from scratch has its pitfalls. I will not list them, as I find it depressing.
I have had an idea of putting servos in the turrets so the guns can move around but that will be done a lot later.

As you say CB90 part of the fun of scratch building, I have even been known to make the same part five times until i got it looking how i wanted it.

So keep at it, you are doing a great job.

Hi Shipmates,
Sorry have done little to the boat in the last 2 months have been concentrating on me Batboat https://model-boats.com/blogs/79067#85538

Added a 2mm wide strip of wood (mahogany) around the cabin between roof and sides.
Built up 4 vents from fittings and styrene tube, added a washer to the base and some shrink down around the join, then added a 5th fitting to the cabin top.

"the torpedo tubes are made from two 'Sterident' tubes"
    Now there's an idea!😀
I use the German equivalent, Kukident😉, have a small carton of 'em saved for ...!? The 'Sure they'll come in handy for something' principle😁 Bit over scale for my 1/35er though🤔
Looking forward to your next instalment Roy👍
    Cheers, Doug 😎
BTW: attached a pic extracted from the US Bureau Of Ships plans of the PTB 103 class.
Clearly shows that the day cabin forward window starboard side did have a rain/spray deflector fitted.
Shown dotted as it's behind the torpedo tube.
Only the windows at the forward and aft ends of the cabins seem to be without.
I have more of these extracts and photos of the cockpit and other details (PT109) if you need them just YELL😉
PS: I know that pic you posted of 'PT103'.
It comes from Jeff Davidson's excellent set of CGI pics from a 3D printer build, NOT from an original boat!
    A small boo boo there😉

    Hi Doug,
Any Drawing would be of help, I have collected a few!
The Serident tubes are under scale by a 1mm in diameter will haver to put plenty of paint on them!
A picture of an Italeri 1/35 Scale Elco PT 109 Kit by Stuart Hurley also from the 103 web site, its a detail build of the 109, modified from original.

    http://www.pt103.com/Italeri_PT109_Build_Stuart_Hurley_3.html

AFTER SOME RESEARCH OF ORIGINAL PHOTOS I THINK THE PT103 WEB SITE IS CORRECT SEE PIC 3 FROM THE FACTORY AND PIC 7 OF PT105.

20th Scale ELCO 80ft PT boat part 34

Hi Shipmates,
Mini update, added some details:-
1, Two strengthening bars diagonal from spray shields and a petrol filler centre (pic 4)
2, Drip bars over windows, apart from starboard forward window. Not sure why this is missing,(please enlighten if you know) I think it may be due to the hatch above this window being hinged inboard, pt 103-127. perhaps could be an obstacle to exit? see picture from pt103.com. (pic 5)
3, Small step to rear turret, and petrol filler. (pic 3)
4, Brace on top part of roof. (pic 1)

Hi Shipmates,

Used rubber bands as joint rings, two more to be added to each torpedo tube.

20th Scale ELCO 80ft PT boat part 36

Hi Shipmates,
Mini update, torpedoes in the tubes they are made 25mm diameter wooden balls. Top of torpedo tubes in the picture, glued in with super glue (the thin stuff) after sanding the entrance to the tube to get the position correct.
roof top of the helm added detailed trim and skylight window (non-functional as there is a beam under it).

Steradent tubes are clever. My PT boat's build scale is 1/24 and I played with many ideas to get a realistic shape and diameter of 22" Mk XIII's. I did not want excess weight so I tried plastic tubes with cut ping pong ball heads, but nothing gave the look I wanted

I eventually used some large aluminum cigar tubes that a friend gave me. The 7/8" diameter on these was the .04" undersized but they have their own bulb nose and they are so light. My model has roll off racks, so the smaller diameter works better with the rack size

Also these tubes have lots of inside space in the event I try to motorize them like John Drain did on his site.
