I took have a weakness for British Bikes.
In the past having a 1964 Norton Commando,1966 Triumph Bonneville which I bought as a "Basket Case". Later a 1969 Triumph 750 Bonneville. The Norton is especially desirable.
Also, British Autos, But I will stop before I get Flagged😮

GaryLC, I had a 1958 Huntmaster back in the 60's but it never looked that good.
I'd swap everything in my collection and workshop to be able to own it again.
Great memories, I hope you enjoy riding your beautiful bike.
Cheers Colin.

Perhaps if our work spaces, research area, and storage resembled the library where everything has it’s place, then our “collections” would be more appreciated by others in our homes. Only somethings have their place in my shop but other items, are just clutter.

My wife is proud of my work and when we get out to the water she is more than willing to share information with the public gathering around to watch me sailing my various scratch built vessels.

She just doesn’t like “My Mess” scattered around though. Dirty clothes go in the hamper, not on the floor; books go back on the shelf not left out; there should be order not clutter.

Happy wife is a happy life some say. So, I am a better person when considering my partner, friend, guide, counsel, and so much more. She is a gift 🎁 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, wrote Solomon in Proverbs 12. I am blessed because she is in my life.

You've made a lovely job of the bike rebuild Gary. I dont have room in my garage for model boats as it's got 4 motorbikes in there. One needs to go though to be replaced by my Lambretta which resides at my mother's.

A hoarder has stuff but doesn't know where it is... A model has stuff BUT knows it's here somewhere.

Like Trev, I have the whole house to myself, the only problem is you have more space to fill😂 (think I've reached capacity now though😁) Work areas are only this messy when building something, otherwise everything is away in cupboards. Having no permission required to use 'aerial storage' is a bonus as well😁

I did have room for a lounge 'ornament'. I also have the proper workshop downstairs, which is just as bad. I think most modellers are compulsive hoarders of everything which 'might come in handy one day' and most of our work areas look the same,- a small central bit of bench, surrounded by mayhem😁

All of my finished boats, projects, parts, plans, kits etc are in my garage workshop. They share space with my 61 Studebaker Hawk plus assorted lawn equipment. I have to be careful when painting to not get overspray on the Hawk or finished models. My plan is to, hopefully next year, to clean up, seek and or dispose of some of the unused equipment in the garage, rework the wall across the garage from the bench with shelving to get more finished model storage and better floor storage on the floor…and I’m going to finally get off my rear end and get a cheap car cover for the Hawk to keep her clean. The car sits about 6 feet from my bench…😮

This is the space in the family room I have my sights set on. Doesn't it just scream "display some boats here"?
Dave
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Galaxy quest it is. I was at universal the day they shot the planet scene. Met all but Tim. Had no idea the blond lady was Sigorne Weaver. Allen Rickman was very nice n fun to spend time with. Schaloob was just like you saw him, eating out of paper bag. Found out what movie was year later. Well just did first coat fiberglassing. Messy Garage filled with car n gyrocopter so I did it in house. Another bribe is pending for smell BTW

Happy holidays all n may a ship be in your mailbox or under tree

At this time of year some of the shops stock Christmas tree boxes they are a bit over a meter long and can house a model, perhaps without the superstructure. They do stack.
Another source of boxes is the flat screen TV box, very sturdy and can be cut down to size I have one and keep meaning to start on another.
Shelving can only take a few models.
Another option is to make your models box friendly and to have removeable or folding masts.
Yachts can have two boxes a plastic or cut down box with a purpose made sail box.
I make my yachts with masts and sails as a unit that go into a flat box only needs be a few inches deep.
Good luck

My boats stay in workshop too with the exception of one on the mantle once Christmas decorations come down.

I can’t complain as the room was the first one finished when we did the basement. It has a metal exterior lockable door which is closed when the grandsons are here and I am not down stairs.

The room has ventilation and a heating duct which can be open or shut.

Also, a laundry tub with hot and cold running water which is great for clean-up.

I'm basically banished to my workshop for display space, but I'm still working on her to let me rotate a few in and out of the family room in the house.

Nearly 60 years ago just before we got married my fiance and I showed my father around our new flat. He never said anything until he had seen everything and then he turned to my future wife and said "Where is Roy going to keep his boats"?
I have built more than a few since then.

Westward, neither my garage nor my trailer are heated, as long as its dry and frost free it should be fine.
My wife's craft shed also has no heat. But is lined with 12mm ply and the void filled with polystyrene beads and glazed with 6mm acrylic sheet.
Again no problems.
Cheers Colin.

I have a special shelf in main hallway. Finally SHE will allow me to put big ships there Paddlewheel boat and the next ship DE 1040 will go there. Goodbye peacock. I designed house n had this built in the two floor tall hallway. House built in 80’s. So moral of story “never surrender never give up”.

I claimed one of our bedrooms as mine. I only have 5 finished models ranging from 3 to 4 feet long. And a couple projects going. It also serves as my finish shop with work table. I do all painting and epoxy work in the heated garage. Nice compromise I think 😀 Thanks, Dave

You are not alone shipmate, I only have 2 in the home as they take up so much room, 14 in the attic awaiting restoration work, 22 in my show trailer, 20 plus in workshop either being worked on or ready for the next vintage show.
Not all are mine, I bought the wife a couple to keep her happy as we share our modelling hobbies. Plus the one I bought for my grandson as he hasn't any storage space at his home.
Cheers shipmate, happy modelling Colin.

Some of you folks have quite a collection of finished boats…. WHERE do you store them all ?
My wife and I get along real well, but the idea of “ displaying “ them around the house just didn’t go over to well.
