Scramble net advice

Thanks for all the replies. Plenty of ideas, my wife has said that if I get stuck she’ll try and crochet some if I find a suitable material! Now need to delete my browsing history on fishnet stockings.

I have seen some supermarket fruit products packaged in a net-like product which could scale up to maybe 6"-12" pitch netting.

A neighbour wanted some for one of his models and said that old keep nets (not the new ones) are ideal.

My brother-in-law is an angler and frequenter of boot sales and got him an old net which was just the job.

Yes, over 10 years ago I made a scramble net for my Graupner Wiesel (scale: 1/40). I made it by starting with a flat piece of woo, marking off a grid to the size I wanted it to be. Next I put in some brads (small nails) along all sides then weaved and knotted the lines. Finally, I added the round disks to the sides that keep the net away from the hull for safer climbing.

There are plenty of references for full sized nets (even how to tie the knots) including this one: https://markusnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/LEI-288-2-SCN8-200-to-400R-FRC-TD-sheet.pdf

Scramble net advice

I’m after pointers for scramble nets. Two of my projects need them - the 1:16 RAF crash tender and the 1:30 RTTL. I’ve seen them on larger scale crash tenders and despite being reasonably handy with rope work and splicing I’m struggling with a way forward for smaller scale scramble nets.

Was wondering if anyone has found anything that works at a smaller scale.
