African Queen refurbishment

First time on the water in 4 or 5 years for the African Queen. I refitted the engine yesterday, set up the engine management controller and did a bit of tidying up. The shakedown cruise went well but threw up a few niggles. I need to make a new reversing lever and linkage, make up a new gas pipe and resecure some of the woodwork where the glue has degraded over time, so this weekend will be spent sorting out the defect list. The photos are in no particular order, and please excuse my ugly mug on one of the videos, I accidentally pressed the selfie button mid video whilst trying to sail and video at the same time!😌

African Queen refurbishment

With luck and a fair wind Charlie and Rose will be back up to their steamy shennagens on Friday morning, first thing. This morning, I put the engine and boiler back together and fired it up. Success! The crates have been dirtied up a bit, but I might do more yet. Just got to drop the engine back in place, connect up and adjust the engine managment servos and make 1 bench top, luckily I still have some oak strip left over from the build....

Hi Nick,
Apropos "if there is any interest ...",
Yes please muchas interest😉 also in some info on your laser cutter.
Such as pics, data (what can it cut thickness, max dimensions etc) and what model, where from😁 Last time I looked (some years ago) affordable machines for modellers were more engraving tools than cutters.
True cutters being a capital investment for a medium size factory🤔
If we can drag you away from your creativity for a few 🙄 minutes!
Cheers, Doug😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

African Queen refurbishment

The refurbishment of the African Queen is proceding well. I have replaced the gas tank for with a smaller one, and made a crate to hide it. I used my laser cutter to make the parts from 1mm and 3mm ply. I have also made some crates to hide the throttle and reverser servos. Just got to tidy up the engine and ascociated plumbing and fit the engine managment unit I got from Clevedon Steam, it is basically a mixer that allows the throttle and reverser to operate off one channel instead of two...
