Nick, many thanks for this sharing...and measurement. I must admit I had taken previous consensus advice and now put a camber on my mid-deck. It worked out a bit more than your measurement off the kit piece.....my camber worked out as 4mm at mid chord.... see pic. But hey- whats 2 mm between friends - for a restoration I cant be too worried.
Hopefully this closes out this query and forum thread - I cant believe there has been so much feedback !!
Thanks everyone who has contributed. A build blog update following shortly as aft cockpit and deck hatches complete. 😀

Just checked an original part from the 34" Aerokits Crash Tender and the mid deck is slightly curved rising by just over 2mm from edge to centre and a slightly shallower curve than the roofs.

Absolutely Mike, I just didn't pick 'em up on my first search😔
Mia culpa 🤔
Looking forward to the maiden report👍
By the way; the grease I use for my prop shafts is Teflon based.
Has a wide temperature range, doesn't coagulate like molyb and lithium and Co, and is not so environmentally unfriendly as silicon and mineral based greases/oils apparently 😉
I tried various oils years ago, but it always seemed to 'run and hide' somewhere🤔

Hi Mike.
I made my deck flat as I had not really considered that it could/should be cambered, also the part supplied in the VMW kit was a piece of flat ply anyway.
I've not detailed any drain outlets as a result.
I assume that as they are at the aft end of the deck area, when the boat is riding on a plane and and the bow is up, water would drain naturally to the rear of the deck, and on a cambered deck the water would flow to the outer sides of the deck and meet the drain holes by gravity......if you get my drift!
On a flat deck the drainage would not be so effective ?
Rob.

Just had a look at Victory Industries example and the deck is clearly cambered.

Doug I'm hoping for a maiden voyage this summer, I'm busy with the electrics at the moment, then its a case of putting all the finished parts together (a bit like a kit of parts) as I've made everything and painted all the parts.
Back to the deck - the run off holes, surly these would be required whether the deck was curved or flat since the port and starboard sides are enclosed by the cabin sides?
Rob, how did you decide on your build?

Hi just to add to the debate. When I was a youngster my brother and I owned. Victory Industries RAF Crash Tender such as your model. The mid deck was most definitely curved. Some years ago I re visited my past and bought an old Victory Industries Crash Tender and the mid deck between the cabins is curved. I suppose it depended on the the faithful reproduction that the model was. I have to say it was a good scale model of the real vessel.
Regards
Kevin

I think I found the water run-off.
Zooming into the best pictures I have shows small holes at deck level, port & stbd.
This leads me to think that the deck is indeed cambered!

I found a snippet of a drawing that seems to show that the centre deck might have had a camber 😮
I agree with Doug in his assumption about the absence of a water run off does imply it's flat but the drawing seems to indicate that it's not a flat deck!

OK. At first I also thought it was curved.
I bow to the experienced constructors knowledge Mike.😔👍
I'm just the assistant researcher and pic finder😁
Just wonder why they would have bothered since there doesn't seem to be any water run-offs in the hull sides to justify a cambered deck.
Checked every plan I could find. Nothing conclusive😐
'Instructions'; from VMB I assume. Wonder where their info came from.
Whatever; Yer pays yer money and ....!
How's yours getting on by the way?
Sorry to hear it was maybe delayed by 'finger trouble'😮
Cheers, Doug 😎

Doug, when I did mine I just assumed it was curved because both roofs either side were and it seemed sensible that the bit in-between would be curved as well. Plus the deck at the rear is also curved and that one is in the instructions.

I'm not so sure Mike🤔
Second pic is much larger.
Deck doesn't seem to follow the roof line.
All an optical delusion!

I think you are correct looking at the real-life photo- looks to have a camber. Its easy enough to have this deck follow the roof profile as bulkhead cut to same camber. Thanks for digging up the photo.

The Aerokits version definitely has the curved mid deck following the roof profile. I would think this is correct, looking at this photo, but there are others on this site that are more familiar with this boat!

I am restoring the above and have lost details of the mid deck. Should it be flat ( as I have seen in some models) or did it have a camber following the bulkhead shape ?
