Hi Joe - searching on the web it seems like a lot of the model boat shops in the US have closed down - like the Dromedary which always had an interesting range of boat related things. Still get Model Expo emails since I used to buy from them long ago - but the range of goodies has been very much reduced.
Graupner in Germany closing was a real blow to the hobby as they produced a wide range of very useful items - It seems when you see bits you want/need you had better buy it at the time - might not be available tomorrow..........
Missed out on a couple of very nice kits from George Turner that way as he went back to making figures & Scalextric type car bodies.

Hi Cash,
"Man, I’d love to order from Krick direct, but I don’t think they ship to the US, "
If you don't ask you don't get!
I've noticed several firms that only list EU rates, but they will generally quote rates to other countries for what you want.
Depends on what you order (no paints etc presumably), total weight/dimensions and the carrier and tracking option you choose.
Suck it and see! 🤞 They may at least refer you to a distributor in the US.

Hi Doug, think you are talking about Bedfordshire Clangers. I've never made them but I was fed one once years ago. It is the traditional farm labourer's food of Bedfordshire and neighbouring counties. It's like a long pasty, two thirds of the filling is savoury, meat and potatoes and the other third is sweet, such as apples and cinnammon. Any variation of filling is quite acceptable. The idea is a whole meal in one item.

Good for the waistline I believe! Nerys

BAKED LOO ROLLS AND BOATS!
Which reminds me💡
Capt. Nerys,
You're our dab hand with the sausage rolls, so why not scale them up, stamp the diamond and page pattern into the pastry before baking and away you go😋
As dessert fill 'em with sweet mincemeat instead of pork😁
'One slice of loo roll or two Sir?'
'Custard, gravy or brown sauce with your loo roll Sir?'
The possibilities are endless (like my daft imagination🙄)

YESTERDAY WAS A GOOD DAY 😊
FIRST; the DHL pre-announced arrival of a goodies box from Krick which will help to solve some niggles which have held up various projects, not least the Billing fish cutter conversion!
SECOND; about an hour later UPS unexpectedly turned up with a box of 12 bottles of wine😋, which I'd ordered two weeks ago and not heard a peep about!
Must remember to pay for it🙄
Anyway, Gisela and I are now OK in isolation for a day or two!!

THIRD; my Doc e-mailed me to say he'd got some Pneumokokken vaccine in and invited me round for a prick in the arm party pronto! Gisela has been nagging, er sorry advising, about that for weeks😉
Highly recommended to inhibit lung infections especially for older folks like me with reduced lung function; smoking or asthma etc., or other chronic illnesses.
If you ain't done it yet folks, DO IT. FLEET ORDER!!
Doesn't prevent or cure COVID-19 but can dramatically reduce the effects👍

AND FINALLY;
On the way home from the doc I popped into the local EDEKA supermarket (equipped with one time gloves and a 3M filter mask) and, as well as the gentleman's essentials on my list, managed to bag a pack of loo rolls 🎈🎈
At the check out I joked that I would auction them on Ebay. Odd, no one laughed🤔 Then a few nervous smiles. So, still got 8 spare rolls going cheep cheep - Roll up Roll up 😁

BTW: if you're running low on loo rolls, due to burgeoning scale pillow production etc, here's how to BAKE SOME!!😮 German commentary but the vid speaks for itself. Enjoy😋
Stay safe all, and don't ever lose a sense of humour 😉
CU later, off to Gisela's shortly😀
Cheers, Doug 😎

Good suggestions all round.
While we're all in confinement it's a good time to get that new project under way or perhaps a re-fit on an existing model just to keep ourselves occupied and entertained.
I'm building a new model at the moment so you can look forward to a new build blog from me very soon. When I have built up a good amount of 'photos and text I'll put the blog on here.

Good morning Martin,
That's brilliant idea, heres another one, I normally take my vintage boats to vintage and steam shows through the summer, but as all the shows I am booked in for have been cancelled.
So how about a virtual show???
Maybe sections according to when the model was built? Decades. My fleet goes back to 1910s.
Just a thought, cheers Colin.

Hi Guys,

Due to the current situation that we find ourselves in it would be nice to see more build logs, Hints and Tips, and general hobby chit chat to help us all get through this difficult time.

At the present time we have 5,518 members so it would be very interesting to see what all of you guys are working on.

It dose not matter if you are new to the hobby or you are a very accomplished model maker, it dose not matter what skill level you are at as we all had to start somewhere.

There are a lot of very knowledgeable members that can help with all matters of model boat building, so if you have any questions or require any help in any way i am sure the members here will gladly help.

So please stay safe and enjoy the hobby.

Have had a couple of Cressidas and Corollas Doug. Have the blue 90 Cressida 3L (300,000km) and the white 88 Corolla AE92 1.6 liftback (owned for 16 yrs -208,000kms) at present. Had an 83 Cressida 2L (green) back in 93. Good old cars from the time Toyota made decent cars. Have a 2005 Mazda Axella 1.5 -Jap import- got off ex, needing a few things doing, (she bought a new Hyundai) Mazda is nowhere near as smooth as the old Corolla! Worked for Toyota for 20yrs -hence the Toyotas (bought the Corolla from work at 80,000km ) barely a problem in 16yrs,-just wear and tear.

Is the Verso the UK or German version? not a bad wagon, quite useful space. Only reason I've kept the Corolla is that there is nothing with the same space (without going big)all later Corollas have less useful space, noisier and rougher riding. It's been my 'truck' for years. Cressida is the tow car and weekend armchair cruiser (old mans' car, - but has near 200hp😁).

Same info I found Doug, I was thinking of the actual spelling of Cressida (Chryseis Cresseid,-Cressida) probably Anglicized by Chaucer/Shakespeare.? I've noticed that sometimes when you type a word into google it will not find anything, but if you eventually track it down, the next time you type it in, it's there. Have found that with numerous things -(MTB49 was one I spent years looking for, (for my model) and eventually found a photo buried in a UK model mouldings site, Now all I have to do is type in MTB49 and up it comes,- strange how the internet works! Perhaps once someone views it for the first time inside a site, it opens it to the general internet, -don't know!!??? modern teknolology!

"Took me ages to find the origin of Cressida"
Why so long?
Took me about two minutes and three hops, back to Chryses of Troy, via Chryseis and Cressida.
"In Greek mythology, Chryses (/ˈkraɪsiːz/; Greek, Χρύσης Khrúsēs, meaning "golden") was a Trojan priest of Apollo at Chryse, near the city of Troy."

Marmite, Vegemite, we're not racist down here Doug but our Okker cousins black gold is just a bit different. both are just as popular. Funny when the tourists try it, most just don't get the taste experience😐😮☹️. Ever try either in hot water for a winter drink,? very nice!

Wonder why they didn't call it Carolla virus, (maybe petals don't cut it?) mind you it has a Toyota car name - (Crown) Another useless fact is the name Cressida (another Toyota name) is a name bastardized gradually from the Greek chrysos (gold, golden) then further by Shakespeare for his play Cressida and Troilus (Cressida being a Trojan tart (whos' father was a defector to the Greeks) hooked up with a Trojan prince, as usual, didn't end well.

Took me ages to find the origin of Cressida so how on earth the Japs found this is beyond me! Nothing remotely to do with their culture! Bet Wills didn't know the name he came up with would end up on a Jap car,- (probably wouldn't have even known what a Japanese person was) I have a Cressida and a Corolla, should I be worried?

Over 189 cases of 'Toyota car virus' so far, (jump of 47 cases today) Lockdown at 1 minute to marmite went, well and all's quiet (very) on the 'Southern front'. 16 have come through it ok & so far, no deaths yet😊😊 fingers crossed!! Might haul out the bike tomorrow if fine and take a few pics around, (at least we can still do that, and go walkies by ourselves (or our 'bubble buddies')
Unfortunately we are not allowed to go boat fishing, which in some ways is a bit silly, as if you are by yourself, not far offshore you are pretty much further away from people than you would be at home. (using the excuse that coastguard might have to rescue you (same for trampers) Should have started this 3 weeks ago, (due to the 2 week incubation period, and tourists who were still being allowed in) but with plonkers in charge they are just panicking now and doing an almost blanket ban. Needs a bit of refining to be sensible otherwise people will soon get frustrated.

As long as you are doing something (kayaking, boating, cycling sailing etc) by yourself and can keep away from people, I don't see a problem. They are allowing people to walk as long as they follow the 2m spacing precaution, so what's the difference. Horseface is threatening Police and Army and inviting people to dob in anyone they think is not obeying to the police (you can imagine the strain on the cops trying to keep up with narky neighbours!)

Feel a bit sorry for them as they will be flat out trying to stop the inevitable burglaries from stalled building sites etc. One young chap ( a NZ carpentry apprentice of the year has just had his van and around $6000 worth of tools stolen, (some were his prize and some were gifts) so it's started already! Lots of new building round here so the maggots will be crawling round the area at night, nicking anything that's not nailed down, (pretty easy for them to see the cops and security coming, as they will be the only ones on the road!). A security firm has been swamped by requests for building site work and will have to find 300 plus, extra staff.

Let the games begin! keep safe.

If you have to do it Nerys - you really should wear a mask and disposable gloves to minimise the risk . Also stay at least 3metres away from any others to be sure - in some circumstances virus can carry further - and also DONT stand downwind .

Agree with Peter however - better not too - how about making a very small model and sail it in the bathtub rather. That should relieve some boredom.

Also confined to base by better half - fortunately have a view of the sea from the living area of the house - not even allowed into the garage & hence the Laser. Have to wear mask & gloves to do so.

UK is pretty much on lock-down from now. Essential services only and some workers who have no choice of working from home. Enforced by the Police but only officially after an emergency powers bill is passed in Parliament later this week. Shop only when necessary with all other shops closed from now. Pretty much the same as SA and NZ but from today.
Keep well all.

NZ in lockdown from Wed night for one month. No unnecessary travel, most shops and businesses closed (except a few with special conditions ) supermarkets, vets and chemists will stay open. We can go for walks by ourselves (oh deep joy!) and watch garbage on TV (luxury!,- we used to dream of watching garbage on TV!). Many will be working from home, and others who can't will get wage and business assistance from govt. Would say better late than never but unfortunately it's not.☹️ Should have been done weeks ago.

We now have around 100 confirmed cases (most from visitors) but now 2 from community transfer (hence the code 4 -shut the door move) At least the traffic noise will subside for a while (I'm on a main road into our beach suburb and the dust and general pollution has increased 100x in the last 10 yrs from traffic increase due to housing expansion) and my lungs might get a break😁 Thank goodness for internet and happy modelers around the world, at least we'll have something to stop us going stir crazy. Imagine people with no hobbies!

Supermarkets' best selling products will be beer and wine as the bottle shops will be closed! It's now official party time in NZ from Wed and I think also the sales of NZ 'green' will go through the roof, and zombies will be roaming the streets😂 Police and army will be enforcing the rules while this is on so it will be an interesting month (or 2 or 3 or------?)
Take care every one, don your masks, gloves and wellies and sit back in your armchairs and enjoy the show.

Being enforced by Army & Police - so protesters wont have much say - as a State of Emergency effectively declared.
No external visitors from Virus hot spot countries allowed - only citizens & permanent residents to be allowed back in.
