This is becoming a great realistic model. I love the progress so far. Hope you will have enough juice to operate everything for more than 10minπ
As a scale modelmaker I can't wait for the weathering stage.
One comment if you don't mind. I would put a warm gel around those leds to make it less starwars-like.

That looks absolutely great, Bill. It will make the heads turn with that smoke.
I made me think however... What if you put those emitters a bit lower inside the chimneys? Would that make the smoke look less concentrated/accumulated in one spot? Excuse my english, I hope you know what I mean.
Great job so far, can't wait to see her in action.

Well done Mike. That's such a useful toy.
I can see you got yourself something decent. The one I bought is the simplest possible machine. No extraction, bed or any other features. It was only 150 quid so can't expect too much.
I have been using laser at work for almost 20 years now and I must tell you it's revolutionised the process.
My little divice is currently helping me make my own working rigging blocks.
I can't really comment much on your model as the differ hugely.

I wish they were. It's an old boat and it would be close to impossible to install another servo.
Truth be told, I never imagined it being an option. I bought it around 10 years ago and kept the original set up.
Both flying jib and forsail just slide on the static rope fro mone side to another. Not ideal but has to do for now.

π Valdivia problem

That is what I'm trying to achieve. A bit late for some things but there are some parts like sails which were always to be made from scratch. At this stage I'm going to adjust as much as I can. Well, I made a mistake trusting Robbe and now I'm going to have to learn to love Valdivia again.
I'm saving all my energy and passion for Bluenose.

π Custom figures
3 months ago by
π¬π§ AndyN (

Petty Officer 1st Class)
Flag
I will try to answer all your question by giving you a reference from my deal. I'm ordering 4 different figures in digital format. They will cost me up to 50bucks. I will then print them on my 3d printer in 20th scale however the scale doesn't matter in this case as I can scale them to whatever scale I want before sending them to print.
I can guess 1 figure might cost around 10 to 20 bucks but the beauty of is it's yours forever. You can use it in different poses or colours on all of your boats regardless of scale. Leave the posing and printing to me.
If you guys have 5 min to spare you can go to cgtrader.com and post a project, see what offers you get.
All you need is a short description and a picture.
I will update here on my dealing with the drawer.

Hello, fellow builders.
As far as I remember there was a post about figures needed.
I'm in contact with 3d modellers to purchase some 3d models drawn to my requirements. If anyone is interested I can order some other figures to your requirements and will 3d print them and post them to you for free. You will only pay for the 3d file.
You can always use whatever I will get from them. Still freeπ
How does that sound?

Yes I did browse the net for inspirations. I could conclude that practicality plays a huge role in a overall look and detailing.
Unfortunately the hull was made by a friend, I must confess.

John, Valdivia had the motor installed originally and fortunately it was left untouched in mine. Makes life easier.
I'm following the manual with regard to rc gear and have the servos ready to be installed. I guessed the travels so far but still need to know those for the foresails.
You mentioned schooners... Any chance to see them?
I need to check out the grp hulls for sure btw. Very intriguing.

Dear John. That is a very insightful comment and I agree fully.
What I have to comment on is the simplification. Yes it can go too far however I don't see valdivia as a simple model, well, apart from maybe some details like splicing. I do really think that shifting a sail's anchor point maybe a mistake as well as wrong position of both mast and jib spreaders.
You made me rethink my approach to this project... and life... maybe. ha ha
I'm going to make the foresail correct and keep the jib in a wrong position for now. I'll see how it performs in practice.
Oh and one more thing dear readers. Do any of you own this beautiful vessel or know someone who does? I'm scratch building the control gear and need some info on seets' travels.

I do agree on the open cockpit problem. Water as we know can get anywhere; hard to live without it, hard to live with it sometimes. What a force.
I stopped worrying (let's say) after my cutter developed a leak. Very old, crappy epoxy glue simply disintegrated around rudder which caused flooding and in result the electrics failed. I had to go into the water to save my boat. Fortunately the day was warm enough and only 2 onlookers. That taught me a very important lesson - I'm not sailing my boat in winter or any other cold season.

The link you found Ron is the one. Wow. I think I found a different one before with some of the pics shared. ....wait IT IS the same siteπ
Before I built my cutter I read The gaff rigging handbook which gave a lot of insight. Hey, I even rigged grand turk in 5th scale.
What boggles my mind however is why the heck the kit is so incorrect. My thinking is they moved the anchor points of the sails in order to make them easy to control and pass each other. I have no clue. Just trying to ignite a discussion.

Are you suggesting that I should scrap the idea of following robbe's questionable ideas and do it correctly? I'm thinking of moving the foresail's mounting point to its correct position, I must admit...π€
