ANTEO by PANART
Has anyone built this tug ? ? ? I am about to attach the brass plates that rim the upper section of the hull. The square and oval opens In the brass have not been punched out. I am attempting to open these with a jeweler's saw. CAREFULLY. The brass Is thin - It can bend easily. These openings on the brass trim - can the brass belt be put ON the boat and THEN the openings are sawed open??? At this point I'm thinking of not sawing these opening at all -- I have extra brass trim.

MOTOR INSTALLATION
Building the ANTEO TUGBOAT by PANART. THe prop shaft sits low In the hull. THey want me to mount the motor higher -connect It to the shaft by a pulley. Where do I get a belt and pulley??? NO IDEA!
I'm thinking of cutting out 60 percent of the keel after I beef It up on both sides with parallell supports.
Any thoughts?

I'd be glad to. it's on the Cornwall Model Boat site. Enter
Laser & Photo-Etched Sheets and you will find it. it is the brass fittings the way PAN ART should have done them.
It was the brass sheets that shot me down on the Anteo. Double planking, okay. An engine that sat about an inch higher than the shaft, okay again. But the brass! Who can cut out the window frames without damaging some of them! Not me!
I will try building the Anteo again, but I'll buy the photo etched brass set FIRST to see what I'm in for.
๐ The Anteo is a beautiful classic tug - a real workhorse tug. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - even though I posted mine about 3 years ago. Still... thanks. I actually dumped my ANTEO. Since doing that I have noticed the BRASS TRIM is for sale by other companies for the ANTEO with everything already trimmed out. Might try one more time.

Thanks Canada... I ordered my Graupners as Graupner was going BANKRUPT.... I learned that weeks later. Before I learned that - again - I sent them countless e-mails and left phone messages - LONG DISTANCE CALLS - LOS ANGELES to the UK - EXPENSIVE ! ! ! NO REPLY. Westbourne should not list their e-mail and phone number if they intend to Ignore all e-mails and phone calls.

๐ Motors and voltage

I have twin Graupner turbos. They take 12 volts. I don't like the size and weight of the 12 volt batteries I find. Smaller batteries are the ones used for electric flight. But they are 14 volts. Would this fry the motor?

Thanks for the reply. I understand the Graupner situation.... NOW. But if they're not going to answer emails why bother to put a "contact us" bar in their website. 13 emails and TWO transAtlantic phone calls - NOTHING. The need to treat people with more dignity than that.

The Melcalf Mouldings boat is astounding but the window frames are plastic to be painted silver when I get there. Yours look like they're made out of metal.

I came so close to buying this kit but at the last minute I found the Alice Upjohn Lifeboat by Metcalf Mouldings and went with that. I'll follow your blog to see how it goes. I think this will be my next.

Nothing! Nothing! 13 emails. Two telephone messages from Los ANgeles to the UK. No reply to these postings. it's okay. I reversed the credit card payment and found motors elsewhere. Westbourne does not care - it should be obvious tI anyone. Building a model boat is supposed to be pleasant and relaxing - NOT STRESSFUL ! ! !

I ordered two Graupner motors. Graupner as you may know has gone BANKRUPT. They are being liquidated. Westbourne dos not have my motors. Maybe they intend to hunt some down. Maybe they intend to just keep my money. I have launched a dispute with my credit card company. At some point I will get my money back. I scoured the internet in the USA and found someone who had the two motors I needed.
But I build model boats so I can .... RELAX ! ! ! Not go through this. Westbourne - we have words in America that describe you. Promise to answer one of my many emails and I will tell you what these words are.

Thank you. I expected the problem to be something like that. Westbourne cannot ship what it does not have. But I do not exaggerate when I tell you I have sent Westbourne 13 emails at this point to two separate e-mail address AND I have made TWO phone calls from Los Angeles to Westbourne and left detailed messages on their answering machine. ANY reply from them would be appreciated. But their choice is to NOT respond. And so you and I can only GUESS.

I'm a member living In Los Angeles, California. I ordered two Graupner motors from Westbourne FIVE WEEKS ago. My credit card bill says Westbourne got their money. So far - no motors! I have called Westbourne from Los Angeles twice. They have not responded. I have also sent over a dozen emails. Again -- no reply. Has Westbourne gone out of business? Do they simply not care? Is their company run by fools? If anyone knows someone at Westbourne please give them a shout. Tell them Jim In Los Angeles wonders why he's being Ignored for over a month.

I have never made a boat from a semI kit. THis one has many parts drawn In the plans and a supply of wood sheeting and plastic sheeting. I have the proper cutting tools... MY QUESTION: do I trace these parts onto the plastic? Or would It be better to glue each part piece of the plan to the plastic or wood with RUBBER CEMENT and use It as the cutting template? ๐

I'm In Los Angeles, California. I love seeing the work done on Aerokits lifeboats on this website. I'd love to build one of my own but, from what I can see, Aerokits has not been In business for quite some time. If anyone has an Areokits lifeboat In the box... I'd love to see If we could make a deal.
