J.J, if you are using brushed motors I would suggest that you use a 12volt Duracell battery and it needs to be placed fed under the bridge. The stern will dig in and cause water to come in. You need weight well fwd to compensate and still make sure the stern well is pretty well water tight. I am also building same vessel and have a 36โ version which planes well but fills stern with water at speed.

Sorry to hear of your house fire. I have Rotterdam it is now about 30 years old. I built it plank on frame when I was living and working in Saudi Arabia had a box built for it so I could ship it home to what was England then shipped it to Florida where I now live. It is a great model. Much travelled!!!

Another thought.. if the mast is not deck fitted you would need extra support to step the mast onto the Hull.

Just a thought, are you going to fit RC in it? Also you may well need some ballast in her so internal access will be required. It would be advisable to cut out suitable access in the deck molding.

๐ Brushless Motor problem

Thank you Doug. I will follow your recommendation. I will go for the two 2x 10 Cells connected in series. It is a big boat to push through the water. That should be a good bit of ballast too.
Regards
Chris

Doug, I assume the two x 10 Cell NiMh Batteries would be connected in Parallel not in series. Otherwise the voltage would be too high. Do you agree?

Doug, I went for the 12v SLA because it actually acted as good ballast.
I will certainly consider your suggestion of the 14 NiCad batteries. that should be a good ballast as well. My speed controller is the Hawk 100A. I will keep you updated.
Many thanks

Thank you very much for this information. I will certainly check this out. I don't think it is a binding issue because the other servos are working corretly.

I have installed EnErG IC C60 0 R670 Brushless motor. It is connected to a Fusion Hawk FS HWK 100 Controller. it is in my 48" RAF Crash Tender.
When I attempt to set it up all that happens is that it Beeps approx every second and the motor twitches in sync with the beep. The battery I am using is a 12volt Duracell battery. Can anyone please advise me what I am doing wrong?
Regards Chris

Great vessel I have one that I am about to repaint as it needs some tlc, I have installed a 6volt Duracell which lays flat fitted fwd of the bridge. I do not have any stability problem. Lumba Lumba performs very well at any speed. Battery lasts for many hours powering the two motors.

I am in the midst of building the 48โ RAF Crash tender.
I have installed Brushless motor and a Hawk BL 100 speed controller. I do have the Hawk ESC programmer.
I think it is set up correctly it the motor will not run. I have 12volts going in but 0 out of the three connections to the motor. Can anyone advise what my problem may be.

Hi Nerys, No i did not the Racing Dhows were generally in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I was in Saudi and Bahrain. There were also some trading Dhows in Dubai which worked between Karachi and Dubai and possibly Muscat. I left the Middle East about 20 years ago now I expect a lot has changed.

Yes Nerys, I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia and then Bahrain. I want to build a model of one of the Shrimping Dhows which Passed us regularly when I was yachting in the Gulf. Also there was a ship yard in Bahrain where the Dhows were built nd repaired. It was fasinating to see the method of construction.

I am looking to source a kit for an Arab Dhow. Needs to be suitable for RC. I did find a kit in Saudi Arabia years ago but i was heavily committed to Billings boats and never got to purchase it, then I got posted to Bahrain and never got the chance to go back.
Can anyone advise please?

Yes,the 11 volt battery will work. Not sure how effective it would be over a long period. Fans are pretty tolerant to lower voltage. Or you could connect two 6volt batteries in series to give 12 volts
