Window Frames
Hi, I need to make a set of silver โmetalโ frames for the windows on a launch Iโm building. I am stuck for ideas of how to achieve this. Some of the corners are rounded rather than angular. This would appear to make the crafting somewhat more difficult I fear. Suggestions will be much appreciated.

Think you are very brave to share that one. Hereโs one from me. Got up made cuppa. Let dogs out, went into lounge opened the curtains. Went to the little room.
Returned to the kitchen NO tea. Where is it? Retraced steps twice, gone.
About to search garden, although hadnโt been out, so put the milk away in the fridge first. Opened the door, yep, thereโs my tea mug sitting on a shelf!
Please keep this between us, as obviously I donโt want it to become general knowledge.
Have fun.

Ok good friends, helpful as you were, you can all stand down. Her indoors eventually got fed up with me turning the house upside down said youโve put them somewhere stupid. I initially denied this of course.
Have you looked upstairs in bed drawers? Of course I havenโt, thereโs only clothes in there, it would be stupid place to put them. When she wasnโt looking I investigated, there they were in all their glory. Sure she must have put them there.
Anyway I pretended I found them in the garage. So all is well now. On with the build!

Some months (last year) I bought all the electonics/electrical stuff for a twin motor model. Now I need to fit them, guess what? I canโt find the damn things anywhere! Iโve even spent a day tidying up my workroom, no success. Agreed it did need doing.
So my question to you is where are they. Any clues will be more than welcome.
Have fun.
PS yes I did buy them got the email receipts!

Thanks guys, trying to locate the laser print material, cheapest I can find to date is ยฃ30 all in. So still looking round. The plastic is not really going to cut it for this task as I prefer a genuine metal finish if possible. Not contacted SLEC as yet.
Iโll let you know where I go when I have decided. But I much appreciate your replies. Many thanks.

I have this model 3/4 finished. Unfortunately I have lost one of the metal window frames. I am at a loss as to the best way to make suitable replacement that wonโt be to obvious, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Colin,
Iโm in Leicester. I think that the boating like is only used for special model shows/occasions. I fairly certain that it is not used by any club, on a regular basis.
Yes, the school is still on Melton Rd, now an academy of course. Certainly much larger than it used to be.

Thanks for all the info guys. Double sided tape was a winner, with surprise late runner, blue tack. A flash of inspiration in the wee small hours!

Ah thanks Colin. I was going to try the silicone idea today, but I wonโt now, thanks. Iโll go for the tape. I was also thinking, after the silicone tip, to try no nails, as I have some to hand. Iโll test some on pieces of scrap wood and see how it goes.See if it glues ok afterwards.
Cheers all.

Cheers. Looking at it I reckon that it sets, and Iโm not sure how hard. Iโll have a chat with the shop to see what they say. ideally Iโm want something that will hold items in place, which can be easily separated by running a blade through the tack so they will separate.
Thanks again.

Hi All,
Any one suggest a glue that can be used for tacking assemblies together so I can test fit them, see how they look etc. And then remove and disassemble allowing adjustments to be made, allowing the glue to be easily removed when required and the permanent adhesive to be applied.Masking tape not always suitable.
Thanks.

Hi Chris, I too have looked at reviews, and videos of scroll saws. Trouble is nothing suits everyone. Some love, and others not so keen on all,of the choices. So I reckon itโs upto me to dip my toe in somewhere. I can collect from machine mart as there is one up the road from me. I am hoping to get my three power tools for around ยฃ300. Fingers crossed!
Yep the boat Iโm going for is the Dave Melbourne Huntress in that very Mag. Hope I bump into you Friday as I will be on my own all day.
Regards Glyn.

Ok guys, got all that. Need a saw that will do a bit more than 8mm though.
A variable speed saw sounds more versatile for different materials. Thanks for the pointers. Trouble with screwfix is you canโt get a hands on before you buy.

Hi, Iโm glad to hear that as I have a list as long as my arm. Will be attending on Friday. Hoping to buy as much as I can towards a Fairey Huntress scratch build.
I am also setting up a new workshop. I am looking to get a scroll saw, table saw, and bench pillar drill. is it all likely I may buy them at the show?
Iโm not sure what to expect there as this will be my first visit.
Happy days.

Hi,
Rolfman just google acetate sheet, and take your pick. Loads of of it out there. I use it for aircraft cockpit screens, 99% of which are curved.
I have ordered some glue and glaze so will try it soon as.
One thing I noticed from your posts is you mention painting the frames. I had no intention of doing that, I was going to leave them untouched, silver( I guess it's stainless) is this a no no.

I am trying to fit, well glue really, Perspex ports, with outer metal frames into my build. I'm having a real problem with it. Can some one give me the heads up on the tried and trusted method. Do I fit/glue the Perspex into the cabin and then fit and glue the outer frame on top, or glue the clear plastic into the frame and then fit into the hull. I've tried both, but always finish up with the thing falling out, or glue being visible, or both!
There must be a trick of the trade that will make life easier, and make a better job than I seem to be capable of. It's the worst part of the build, for me, and it's putting me off assembling another model that has any windows!
Advice greatly appreciated.

Tip: it's a nightmare to remove the excess, especially if you let it harden first. Be very careful where it goes.

Is the anyway to close the right hand sidebar as it overlaps the right most column of the centre(main) panel, which means I cannot read the main centre panel completely. (iPad)
I've tried swiping it, tapping it etc, but it won't go away. Most annoying.
