I can see you haven’t been back for ages, I think the last show on the Park was about 1955 ish!

Hi Colin, I’m in Leicester. I think that the boating like is only used for special model shows/occasions. I fairly certain that it is not used by any club, on a regular basis. Yes, the school is still on Melton Rd, now an academy of course. Certainly much larger than it used to be.

wood glue by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 6 months ago
Seconded

Thanks for all the info guys. Double sided tape was a winner, with surprise late runner, blue tack. A flash of inspiration in the wee small hours!

Ah thanks Colin. I was going to try the silicone idea today, but I won’t now, thanks. I’ll go for the tape. I was also thinking, after the silicone tip, to try no nails, as I have some to hand. I’ll test some on pieces of scrap wood and see how it goes.See if it glues ok afterwards. Cheers all.

No I haven’t. I do not have any. I’ll buy a roll Monday and see how it fairs. Cheers.

Sniffy, your to look having a brain. I’m a modeller so haven’t got one at all!

Glue by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 7 months ago
Cheers. Looking at it I reckon that it sets, and I’m not sure how hard. I’ll have a chat with the shop to see what they say. Ideally I’m want something that will hold items in place, which can be easily separated by running a blade through the tack so they will separate. Thanks again.

Hi All, Any one suggest a glue that can be used for tacking assemblies together so I can test fit them, see how they look etc. And then remove and disassemble allowing adjustments to be made, allowing the glue to be easily removed when required and the permanent adhesive to be applied.Masking tape not always suitable. Thanks.

Valentine Day Treat by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 7 months ago
I’m taking her to Ireland today, so she can admire how much Guiness I can sup. Hoping they put a candle on the table for a bit of atmosphere!

Bench sander by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 8 months ago
Lidl have a rather nice sander on offer, for less than £30. Or they dis on Thursday 8th Feb.

International Model Boat Show by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 11 months ago
Hi Chris, I too have looked at reviews, and videos of scroll saws. Trouble is nothing suits everyone. Some love, and others not so keen on all,of the choices. So I reckon it’s upto me to dip my toe in somewhere. I can collect from machine mart as there is one up the road from me. I am hoping to get my three power tools for around £300. Fingers crossed! Yep the boat I’m going for is the Dave Melbourne Huntress in that very Mag. Hope I bump into you Friday as I will be on my own all day. Regards Glyn.

International Model Boat Show by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 11 months ago
Ok guys, got all that. Need a saw that will do a bit more than 8mm though. A variable speed saw sounds more versatile for different materials. Thanks for the pointers. Trouble with screwfix is you can’t get a hands on before you buy.

International Model Boat Show by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 11 months ago
Hi, I’m glad to hear that as I have a list as long as my arm. Will be attending on Friday. Hoping to buy as much as I can towards a Fairey Huntress scratch build. I am also setting up a new workshop. I am looking to get a scroll saw, table saw, and bench pillar drill. Is it all likely I may buy them at the show? I’m not sure what to expect there as this will be my first visit. Happy days.

Glazing help by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 1 year ago
Hi, Rolfman just google acetate sheet, and take your pick. Loads of of it out there. I use it for aircraft cockpit screens, 99% of which are curved. I have ordered some glue and glaze so will try it soon as. One thing I noticed from your posts is you mention painting the frames. I had no intention of doing that, I was going to leave them untouched, silver( I guess it's stainless) is this a no no.

I've got canopy glue, but sure if it stick metal( the frames ) to the plastic hull and the windows. I'll try it. Thanks for tips so far.

Glazing help by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 1 year ago
I am trying to fit, well glue really, Perspex ports, with outer metal frames into my build. I'm having a real problem with it. Can some one give me the heads up on the tried and trusted method. Do I fit/glue the Perspex into the cabin and then fit and glue the outer frame on top, or glue the clear plastic into the frame and then fit into the hull. I've tried both, but always finish up with the thing falling out, or glue being visible, or both! There must be a trick of the trade that will make life easier, and make a better job than I seem to be capable of. It's the worst part of the build, for me, and it's putting me off assembling another model that has any windows! Advice greatly appreciated.

Stabilit Express by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 1 year ago
Tip: It's a nightmare to remove the excess, especially if you let it harden first. Be very careful where it goes. Have fun, Glyn.

RH side bar by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 1 year ago
Hi, Yes indeed. Found that the toggle switch, just where you said! Never noticed it before. Many thanks. Glyn

RH side bar by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 2 years ago
Is the anyway to close the right hand sidebar as it overlaps the right most column of the centre(main) panel, which means I cannot read the main centre panel completely. (iPad) I've tried swiping it, tapping it etc, but it won't go away. Most annoying.

Aeronaut Pilot Boat by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 2 years ago
Just wondered is there a specific filler I can use to close any of the small gaps before painting?

Aeronaut Pilot Boat by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 2 years ago
Cheers, many thanks. My hull is up, trying to decide what motors I fancy, and where to get them from, along with props, controllers, switching unit, leds, and various other grubbing that's required. Like to get in one go, save postage, fed up with paying £3:50 or more for a one tiny item I forgot! Sure you know how it is.

Aeronaut Pilot Boat by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 2 years ago
Thanks, points taken and hopefully heeded. If my boat looks as yours Steve I'll be very satisfied. Nice job. Is the paint VW orange, and did you brush or spray?

Aeronaut Pilot Boat by glyn44 Chief Petty Officer   Posted: 2 years ago
Hi you guys, I have just received my pilot kit. Never built a boat, so gonna be a long, but interesting journey! I have picked up your tips, things to avoid, or how to do a particular task. Thanks for those. Is there anything specific I should know, do, or not do before I start. Regards Glyn
