Saying hello

Hi Glyn,

Having the superstructure fixed could be an advantage if you can lift the cabin top or make a working hatch to give you enough access to change a battery or anything else you may need to do.

As long as you are able to reach anything that you need to get to, your boat will be more watertight with a fixed superstructure.

I build all my boats with a fixed superstructure if I can .

Hi Glyn.
The superstructure should definitely NOT be glued into place, it's essential that it remains removable for access to the interior.
All I can suggest is that you try to separate it as best as possible without doing too much damage.
I would rather hope that SLEC could help you out here but you should expect that it would likely incur material and carriage costs and as a worst-case scenario you could use the original sheet as a template with new wood that you can source from SLEC.
Good luck 🤞.

Hi love your boats, the finishes are superb.
May I ask you a question?
Am I right in thinking that superstructure assembly for the SLEC pilot boat should NOT be glued into place so it can be lifted out to allow easier access to the inside of the hull.
I am sure that I have made a major error and fixed mine in. before I begin the job of hacking it out and scratch building another (I have asked SLEC if they will supply me with a new sheet of ply with the items needed, as they are all on the same supplied sheet) but as yet have not received a reply.
I do have the original sheet from where all the items were removed from so can use that to obtain accurate pattern if I have to.
many thanks, Glyn.

Hi Wolac, in response to your question about where to post photos.

If it's a finished project, I think the best section is "Boat Harbor."
If the project is in progress, the best section would be "Build Blog."
I made a mistake and posted the work in progress in the forum.

Hi Wolac.
That ribbon cable connects the lighting circuits and radar motor to the electronic switches that operate them.
There is a video file in the media gallery on this site that demonstrates the working of these features. If I can find it I'll post a link.

Ribbon,
That looks fantastic. Thanks for putting me onto it. I’m intrigued as to the purpose of the 9 pin D plug!

Hi Wolac.
Welcome to this site, you will make lots of friends and there's always help and advice to be found here.

I built the SLEC pilot boat a little while ago and thoroughly enjoyed it although I did my own version of the cabin as I felt that the kit version needed some improvement.
Here's my build blog:

Have fun with the kit, all the parts are accurately cut and it goes together very well.

Wolac, welcome

Good choice on the model, the pilot was one of my first and still favourite boats. Working through the Slec range, huntsman, fireboat etc is almost a right of passage!

There are lot of talented modellers here so feel free to shout!

Hello,
Just to introduce myself. I’m new to the hobby but have built aircraft in the past.
I’ve just bought the SLEC Pilot boat kit so I’m sure I will get stuck somewhere and will need your help! Anyone built this kit.
Glad to be aboard.
