Nice hard work, well done i now usually get a glass fibre hull if i can. Ive run mine with Irvine 40, and 2 different brushless, 2075 kva and 1150 motors and all performed well 3 or 4 cell lipos, go for the biggest capacity 5200`s as the weight is no problem and double your run time. Pic shows latest motor i think its 2900 kva ill try it out soon. I seem to use the Huntsman then take the motors out for other projects

I agree but the heavy Surfury blasts along as it should being an off shore racer and much faster than when powered by an Irvine 61 plus it all stays nice and cool. it will take 6 s too but there is no need. The lighter Cigarette is running a 2045 KVA with 120 A speedo both water cooled from HK, running a 45 mm prop on 4 cell again quick runs cool without hassle.
I run 5s in a Pursuit 1650 KVA with 120A hk speedo, shallow V on 3 bladed bronze prop it goes like stink but not sure motor would take 6 s, so there are lots of combinations that seem to work ok

I run 1100KVA brushless from HK watercooled with 120A watercooled speedo on 4s 5200`s in my Surfury and Cigarette 36" and they belt along with 50mm 2blade Mocom props but you dont have to run it flat out.

im not an expert but dont think either would be out of place, id personally fit the one thats easiest to start. Im sure that Jerome Grainger fitted a 61 Merco or Webra but the hull was new then.

looks good, not many about now, Meteor 40 should give it speed but not too powerful nor too heavy. Please keep us posted on restoration and show some photo`s of progress.

Hi Steve im not sure now regarding motors as they have water cooling cans on but Surfury runs from memory a 1075kva motor Turnigy 160 A speedo watercooled on 2x2s 5200 lipo`s in series ie 14.4volts with 52mm mocom Alum prop approx 3hp. I think the Tornado has approx 2045kva motor same speedo + lipo`s x 50mm nylon prop both do scale speed to as fast as 40/61 IC and look great on our choppy water with just prop and rudder in the water. Both motors will take 6s if you like ballistic? All gear from Hobby king. Try the IC first, post some pics please

Nice boat Kevin. I have a fibre glass SHG Surfury and a SHG Cigarette. There are some pics of them on here. Both now have electric Brushless motors and look realistic on the water.
I always fancied building a Surfury from the same plan, but the complex rounded hull looked too advanced for my skills or patience but maybe one day.

Looks like a nice model the Graiger hulls are heavy but strong, there was talk that Jerome was going to scale the surfury and cigarette down to use as fast electric scale but Ive not spoke to him for a few months.
Re crew members Ive had the same problem but look at petes pilots they do a 1/12 scale helmeted head and torso, they look good on surfury Ill post some pics when painted up but waiting for the weather to warm up

HI Tiggy cat yes I tracked one down, it was in very good condition too, however Ive seen one on ebay recently which looked as new.
Ive put an Irvine 61 in and am waiting for better weather to arrive before painting it. it is looking good with drivers seated and a little attention to detail.
thanks for info re cigarette, I may have found one which needs a fair bit of work.
I would be interested to hear about it or see it with electric power and what setup you have as id like to run one on a brushless motor but seem to get through speed controllers or blown lipos to often, or else its a meteor 60.

HI all thank you for your post tiggy_cat, Im very interested in a Surfury as I missed one off ebay last week.
I had one in 1974, sold it for Aยฃ15 because I couldnt afford the radio gear then.I contacted Jerome some 5 years back, about the mould, but was informed they had sold them a long time ago.
Please keep me posted as id like an electric and glow version.
