One of my favourite things to hang on to is old brass 13 amp plug pins.
They make all sorts of brass fittings.

Hi Colin,

I also seem to collect almost everything, but then when I want to use it, I can’t find it.

“I know I‘ve got one somewhere.....😡”

I seem to collect almost anything, but then can't think of ways to use it. Luckily my wife sees the potential and tries to point me in the right direction. At least if I scrap the rubbish it doesn't matter.
Cheers Colin.

When you have a model making budget like mine you too will see all sorts of useful things that you can make other things out of.LOL!!

Hi Guys,
Here is an update on my little victory.

The for-mast had a new item in it’s construction.
That item was a Chopstick LOL!

The mast and yards ingredient’s were Chop stick and BBQ stick and you guest it Cocktail sticks LOL!!

There is still a little rigging to do from the yards to the main mast and stays.

The Bowsprit has a crazy amount of rigging on it.

I will fit the Anchors at some point.

The next step is to rig the shrouds and the ratlines then on to the main mast.

I think maybe I should of posted this in the build log section.

Stephen,
If you think this should be moved to the build log section then please do.

Hi Peter,
Things could get desperate as even the local charity shops haven't had any in for quite some time.

As for my wife, as long as I give her knitting needles a quick coat of paint or cut off the end that has the size in it then I normally get away with it, the trouble is she is running out of them too.

Super detailed as usual Martin.
Is it now safe to say that your poor wife has had to give up knitting due to a total lack of knitting needles? She must be looking everywhere for them except in the right place, on your ships.🤣

Hi Guys,

I hope you all had a very nice Christmas.

First update after Christmas.

Well The bowsprit is now rigged with the exception of the For-stay's to the Forward mast.

Made a start on making the Foremast.
Made from wooden knitting needle, BBQ stick and the usual scrap wood.

( photo 4 ) No I do not have big thumbs the mast parts are small LOL!!!

Instructions? What are they?
No wonder I have so much Trouble😂🤣😂
I used to do the project first, then read the instructions to see what i did incorrectly.
Now I do read them first then do my own interpretation🙄🙄🙄😭

Hi Tim,
Without getting into a long debate on this subject as I do not study history you could be right.
I know at some point in time the British Naval history that they used to sew a coil of rope on their hats of the Sailors so that they would not be shot by their own marines.

I once read that marines etc. on ships, wore red coats to conceal blood from gunshot wounds. Never did find out why they wore brown trousers though.😊 Seriously though the army and navy were dealing with illiterate men and women, so it was probably easier to colour code similar items if they had to be repaired. Blue bits for one type of gun red for another. Just a thought.

Hi Ron,
I also understood that the crew wore brown trousers LOL!!
Sorry Ron I could not resist.

I might repaint them later.

I had understood the carriages were red so that when the gun crews were injured they were not able to see the blood as it blended with the red gun carriage. Might be wrong?🧐

I was wrong!

Hi Ron,
I have stained the gun carriages with antique pine.
As for the Victory in Portsmouth.
I live in Southampton a 20 minute ride from Portsmouth.

I will admit HMS Victory is not my favourite ship, altho I do like a lot of the 'Tall Ships'

Hi Martin, (and long time no see) incredible detail especially on that bowsprit (the front bit) and the mast rigging. Quite a Victory in more ways than one, the fine detail is outstanding and I would love to see more photos if that is possible. Regards, Gary.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for the fantastic comments.
I did not think this type of ship would get a look in when most members here are more into the RC ships/boats.

Here is the last update this side of Christmas.
The unused blocks on the ends on the yards will have rigging going up to the foremast also there will be some forestays from the bowsprit to the foremast .

Your usual brilliance is showing clearly here Martin. This little ship is full of tiny details most of which look like they could have come from a top of the range plastic kit. To think they have all been made from a junk box just adds to the mystery of ‘how on earth do you do it’.
Please keep us up to date on your progress.

Hi Guys,
I thought I would post a little update on what I am working on at the moment.
I don't know if you guys will be interested in this, altho I know one or two that might be.

It is a bit late to do a build log, but maybe a few updates posted.

I have been making a representative model of HMS Victory.
She is made totally from scratch and using what ever I can find lying around the house.
She is built at 1:200 scale.

Good friend gifted me some plans and an instruction booklet from the kit of the ship that he had made.

So you know me I had to make it in my usual way.

My list of parts consisted of :

Scrap strips of wood.
Some scrap 5mm plywood.
BBQ sticks.
Cocktail sticks.
Ice-cream tub plastic.
Electrical wire and fuse wire.
And a dash of luck.

I am working on the Bowsprit at the moment.
The rigging blocks are sanded down and cut cocktail sticks.
Here are some photos of the work in progress.
And some photos with a rule to give you an idea of the size.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.
