Yes, I can see your point as well, but in theory, if not posting means no loss of points, there would be a temptation to hold on to a good position if you weren't sure about the answer.

I like to pit my wits against the daily question, and have to admit that at least half of my replies are a semi-educated guess. I know far more about model boats than I do about issues affecting full size boats. But i never check before submitting my guess!

Before, you doubted they could maintain that position for so long without consulting books or the internet before responding.

I can see where you are coming from but because some can not answer in not fair as if penalised for getting it completely wrong

But if that was applied, then as soon as someone reaches 100% they could stop posting and just stay there.

That leads to another problem with the AI aloritham - I think if you dont answer you should stay where you are not be marked as wrong but thats only my opinion

The secret to getting to the top is to know the answer to the questions but the ones you get wrong will come around again sooner or later so remember them, if you know the answer it does not have to tax your brain if you have to remember something you dont its harder work

For an Italian (but I think also for a European) it's unusual to talk about a storm on a lake. Ours are small bodies of water.
The great American lakes, in size, are comparable to seas like the Aegean, the Adriatic, and the Tyrrhenian.

This evening, there is going to be a 50th Anniversary Commemoration event at Split Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior. They do a commemorative lighting every year on November 10th, but this year it is a large organized event. They sold out reserved admission, and are expecting thousands more to show hoping to find a place to witness the lighting.

Here is text from the Minnesota Historical Society's Splitrock Lighthouse website:

Every year on the 10th of November, the beacon at Split Rock is lighted to commemorate the sinking of the freighter SS Edmund Fitzgerald, and all the other vessels lost on the Great Lakes.

At 4 pm Central time, the lighthouse will close temporarily while the names of the crew members are read to the tolling of a ship's bell. Following the ceremony, the beacon will be lit, and the tower will be open again to tour. This event is included with regular site admission. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged.

The memorial beacon lighting will be live-streamed on this webpage, as well as the Minnesota Historical Society's YouTube page and Split Rock Lighthouse's Facebook page. You can also follow the Minnesota Historical Society and Split Rock Lighthouse on Instagram for more historic content.

I'm just going to jump in and add my $0.02 worth.

From my perspective, I have made donations at the Bronze (lowest) level, and that allows me to look back at previous days. A "one time" donation does not last forever, mine expires this coming January. If you have made a donation in the past, but cannot "go back", Your donation has probably expired (no medal showing by your info),

I am treasurer for two clubs/organizations. As such I see what it takes ($$) to run a decent website. They aren't free (web hosting fees, storage fees, etc.), and they consume a fair amount of the Webmasters time. While running this site may not be a sole occupation, it should at least be worth the Webmaster's time. I think we all agree that we would miss the site if it went away. We all have (sometimes significant) investments in tools, and boats of our own. I think that a small annual donation to the site won't hurt any of us.

OK, stepping down from my soapbox now.

Roy, to answer your question regarding "going back", simply go up to the date tabs above the Question and click on any past date that is not green. The question will open, and you can answer it.

Also, Roy, I have been a user of ccleaner for at least 15 years. It is a great tool!

Hi Doug. As per Alessandro's reply. You can only look back if you subscribe or give a one off donation. I have given one off donations and you can't go back so I think maybe I did not understand the donation aspect or the system is not working. Does anyone know how many people subscribe ? If we all paid the minimum it would be £2.50 x 1,805 = £4,512.50 a month or £54,150.00 a year. I would probably subscribe if it was just £1.00 a month. We pensioners are not made of money 😁

However, the correct one raised some doubts.

Hi all, I must have forgotten to do yesterday's QoD! This one today implies that periscopes are used underwater. I hasd to read the question several times to understand the question. Got it right but an oddly phrased one.

Yesterday I was trying to work out why my laptop would freeze up then start up and always seemed there was something going on I did not know about.

A friend suggested I download Ccleaner and run it. Cost £14 but that is less than getting a professional opinion.
Well it took about an hour but so far laptop is running very well, like it used to.

There was so much rubbish there 256Mb of delete data and I also put all programmes not needed to sleep. They come up alright when needed.

I have rung down for full revolutions!

I seem to have discovered that if you don't know go for the answer with the most words.

Yesterday I answered the question correctly, so the green rectangle lit up.

I am getting the hang of this AI working - you don't have to worry about the ones you know and get a green mark for - you have to remember what AI says when you get a pink mark and answer accordingly next time (whether AI be right or wrong)

Hi EdW, I'm in favor of canceling the question and resubmitting a new one if possible.
Alternatively, I'd give all the green boxes, even those who received red boxes.
Further investigation is possible (perhaps including photos of written sources with bibliography), but in the meantime, the question should be contested if there are serious doubts.
In any case, the point of my comment wasn't your knowledge, which I don't question.

Alessandro how I know a bit about hull fouling is that I did research on its prevention for yachts that I crewed on. Due to my electronic engineering background, I assisted with the fitting of ultrasonic prevention systems on a few boats.

Todays answer is wrong, the first layer is due to diatom plankton, the second phase is bacterial plankton so the answer should be C as this enables D. AI bases its deductions on facts that are available and in this case it was not given all the facts.
