Mornin' Doug, Know what you mean, difficult to choose when you have more than one boat to build,
my choice would be Manxman, but then again, I don't
really like sub's, most of the things to look at, are underwater😆, I would love to buy the kit of HMS Manxman, but it's a very expensive kit at the moment, will keep an eye out for one on Ebay, if I'm lucky!😐

HELP! What should I do?
Well that is a very good question Fleet.
I think you should do something that you consider will make a really good build log.
Something that will inspire other model makers and get them motivated, (new to the hobby or old hand's.)
Something that you could get lots of bits working, such as lighting, rotating gun, turning radar, maybe a bit of smoke.
This has probably not helped you decide, but i am sure that other members will agree.

Whatever you decide a nice build log will go down a treat.

Some tricky coding / algorithm changes will be needed, and we shouldn't forget that Stephen is still a member of the working society!

RE "when are you going to start on HMS Manxman?"
My problem is that I'm torn between HMS Manxman, a very complex construction, and my AKULA 2 Submarine!
At least the AKULA hull is almost complete, only conning tower detail & scopes to do) and the rest is 'just' 🙄 fitting out; dive tank & electronics etc.
I've also temporarily shelved the restorations / conversions of my fish cutter and a PT Boat. Diverse interests 😉
HELP! What should I do? I really like Manxman as well, since I built the Airfix 1:600 kit as a kid. I read up on her history and became fascinated.
Her build will really take time to be able to do her justice.
I heartily agree 'Iconic'. I've seen her described as 'The last ship the RN had that LOOKED like a warship'. She survived until 1972 in various guises!
Coincidentally the same year as my other RN favourite H class Destroyer HMS Hotspur, also inspired by the ancient (like me!) Airfix kit and reading her history.
Inspired me to scale up the 1:600 kit and scratch build a 1:72 version when I was about fifteen.

Seems to me few of us use Media Gallery and the most useful photos and vids are in the Build Blogs and Harbour. This has affected me as well. I have posted dozens of pics and vids of my experiments and restorations - but in my Build Blogs mostly - so I get no credit for them even though they caused me the most trouble, time and effort to create download to PC and upload to the site. Not that credit bothers me much - after Fleet Admiral the only way is DOWN! 🤔 But I can fully understand that others are disgruntled and begin to wonder why they make the effort to create and maintain a Build Blog.
I can also understand Stephen coding to ignore photos in the general Forum though.
Cos too many irrelevant (to model boats) photos appear there.
Vintage cars an' Lord knows what!!

Most probably you are still waiting cos Stephen's ghast is absolutely flabbered at your query!
Look on the left hand side of any page on the site and you will see 'Media Gallery' between 'Build Blogs' and 'Boat Clubs & Lakes'.
Apropos 'sounding stupid' I reserve judgement and bow to the majority vote!
ORDER, ORDER! DIVISION CLEAR THE LOBBY. AYES TO THE RIGHT NOES TO THE LEFT 😉

BTW: I also think that the current points for photos & vids is a bit weird and does not reflect the time and trouble that many of us take to illustrate our Build Blogs and answers to How To questions. Will mail Stephen on this when I have time.

So in summary;

Photos only counts the posts in the media gallery section which include photos
Videos only counts the posts in the media gallery section which include videos

I can re-word this on the rank table if it is causing confusion.

I only joined this site in its new format so i don't know how the old site worked.
It is my understanding that if you post photos or videos in a build log you get the points for a new log entry,
If you post photos or videos in a reply/comment you get the points for a new reply/comment.

In a personal profile section i am unsure quite what the photo and video bit means.
Maybe someone could explain this bit to me ?

Photos is what used to be called "Photo Gallery" posts, so not all photos from all post types are included, just Media Gallery ones. Similar with Videos, these are only videos within the Media Gallery.

To include all photos and videos from all posts it would mean a surge in promotions across the board. Last time any mass rank changes were made there was upset for months! But it's up to everyone here if they think it's right or not, or whether it should just be clearer as to what "Photos" and what "Videos" are counted.

but I am unsure as to how to get a reply from yourself.
I have left two messages in PM, but no reply, I think your website is excellent, as I told you when we meet at the show Haydock Park, some years ago, I think you were with your Father, and you gave me a badge.
My enquiry is points for video and photo in your profile, it appears that before the new website was
up and running, there were no problems attributing points on the old website format, I try and assist
with contributions, but feel robbed when I am trying to make the site a more interesting place for other members.

Cash injection wouldn't really help, unless I move us all to a virtual private server and away from the shared hosting environment. It's the shared hosting which limits files...

The website has previously been on virtual servers when GoDaddy hosted everything (about 3 years ago), it does have its own problems though, you get limited support from the hosting companies doing this, as they assume less responsibility for up-time and don't do their own backups. Essentially they provide a server and say "here you go"...

I'm still attempting to backup the old website up (pre March), which, once done, I can delete and it'll clear some more space.

Now at 81% used disk space with just cache file removal. Maybe 50% after the old website copy is removed.

The website hit its "number of files" limit. I've temporarily removed some cache files, but may need to think of something smarter for the longer term 🤔
