"I went to Lidl for a Japanese draw saw"
but what didl I see? No saws saw I 😭
So off to the carpet shop I went.
Where I joyfully saw that they had some saws 😀
so my money I spent! 🤑
I saw my way home to try my new tool,
it worked so well and so easy that I saw
that to buy this tool I was no fool!
Oh where oh where was this saw all my life?
It could have spared me so much time, trouble and strife!
😁😎

I've had one of those for years and it seems just as sharp today as the day I bought it. 'Course I've only cut wood with it, no nails, staples, screws, or barbed wire.😊

The first time I saw one was in 'Nam in the middle '60's. An old Vietnamese carpenter was building window casings with it and the old gent was a master. He invited me to try it on a piece of scrap and I was a believer!

It wasn't only the ease of starting the cut on the back pull, it was the fineness of the cuts, the fact that one can cut the merest sliver and the very impressive speed of cut.

I went to Lidl for a Japanese draw saw, but I must have been too late, no tools on show in the famous centre aisle. So, I went on line and bought the Irwin version of that saw, it came from Axminster tools , a little dearer than the Lidl model. I started using it this afternoon and I'm very impressed with it, the easiest hand sawing I've ever done. Why on earth didn't I buy one before.

That's it Doug - unlike the tenon saw it has no stiffener on the blade - but because its working on the pull stroke there is no need for one. very clever these orientals.............well worth the money - guaranteed you will not use a tenon saw again............. It also functions quite well as a ripsaw although I prefer using my black teflon coated Sandvik one............

Bet that confuses the 'tooth sharpener'😮

You and me Ian - still have quite a few items here bought from Lidl - including a blood pressure monitor used for years without a problem and about 3 dozen single handed quick grip clamps - the small 3" ones were about 2 for a quid - bigger ones at 6" were very expensive at a quid each - come in very handy for full size work. Oh yes and a Japanese type woodsaw which works like a dream - cuts on the back stroke - so very accurate. And to top it all a RC yacht with its own proper full size transmitter on 27.195mhz (changeable) which sails very well - cost a whopping 10 quid - complete with 12 AA alkaline batteries...........(less than a 7.2v Buggy Pack cost at the time)

Hi Bill,
Parkside is one of the NOVO brands and I just found their UK spares and accessories Online shop😊
https://www.shopnovo.co.uk/brands/Parkside.html?sort=newest&page=3
There you can get packs of 5 discs of the 3 grits they do; 240, 150 and 80.
Alternatively; look for any other tool manufacturer who does 125 mm diameter discs with fuzzy backs 😉 e.g. Bosch, Black & Decker etc, etc.
Happy sanding, mind your fingers when doing your nails 😮😭

Bill.
The discs are quite hardwearing so you should be OK for a while with the ones they include.
I just remembered that there's a 'captive' nut inside that can easily fall out (not so captive!) when you remove the adjustable platform to change discs.
A blob from a hot glue gun easily fixes that 😁

Rob,
"Possible inspirations

This song was written by Marvin Moore describing a place in Dallas, Texas, where he and Charlie Boland, a sports announcer, climbed a stairway to a green door where a piano played in the background and a man with a huge cigar kept people out unless they had a card of membership in one of the performing arts or unions. In a copy of the original lyrics he actually began using Dallas in the lyric. A copy of said original lyrics, along with an original letter in 1966 from Marvin Moore to Charlie Boland's daughter explains this to her after she sang the song to Marvin Moore one night over the phone at the age of 9.

After the Great Chicago Fire, a tavern opened in Chicago, the Green Door Tavern. During prohibition, this was a popular place to get secret libations. As the door of the tavern is green, the color became a symbol of a speakeasy. During the Prohibition Era many restaurants would paint their doors green to indicate the presence of a speakeasy.[6]

One suggestion of the song's origins is that it was inspired by an afterhours club in Dallas, Texas, to which lyricist Moore had been refused entry because he did not know the correct password.[1]

At the time of the song's initial popularity in the 1950s, many believed it was inspired by a green-doored restaurant and bar called "The Shack" in Columbia, Missouri, where singer Jim Lowe had attended the University of Missouri. However long-time Shack owner Joe Franke doubts this theory.[7]

An oft-repeated urban legend has developed saying the song refers to London's first lesbian club, Gateways (1930–1985), which was in Bramerton Street in Chelsea. It had a green door and was featured in the film The Killing of Sister George.[8][9] But aside from that there is no substantive connection between the 1950s American song and the British club.[10]

In "The Green Door", a short story by O. Henry from his 1906 book The Four Million,[11] a man named Rudolf Steiner is handed a mysterious card reading, "The Green Door." On entering the door he meets a starving young woman. He quickly rushes out and returns laden with food, and they become friends over supper; finally Steiner promises to visit her again the next day and there is romance in the offing. Eventually it turns out that the card was an advertisement for an entirely different "Green Door", a theatre play. O. Henry uses the eponymous green door as a symbol for everyday adventures which he encourages us to seek out.

It is also possible that the song is a reference to an H. G. Wells short story, "The Door in the Wall."[12][13] "

Hi Doug.
I bought mine a couple of years ago and use it all the time. Don't forget to buy the extra packs of discs that they usually sell at the same time Bill👍

Lidl seem to sell things like these tools, motoring accessories and DIY stuff on a 12 month cycle so if you miss it now it'll come back around a year later. Rob.

Hi People.
Just a heads-up to say that Lidl are selling their rotary disk sander from Thursday 18th Feb in UK stores along with lots more useful bits-n-bobs.

https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/diy/parkside-disc-sander/p40303

Frankly one of the best £30 I've spent on a bench tool for a long time 😁👍
