So far have cleaned it and fitted a MabuchI Brushed motor of unknown power, but appears to work well at 6Volts running a 2 blade plastic prop 30mm 'S' type.
Havent got round to fitting radio gear yet, so have done tests as a free sailer, setting rudder on a slow arc and watching as I walk round pond. Will update as soon as next stage is complete.
Now for some water trials to see what mods are required.
- Colin HFleet AdmiralHI Dave thanks for comment, Cwmbran are certainly a friendlyand helpfull bunch and I'll be joining their club along with my wife, as she's now got a boat restoration of her own to do.(FAIREY HUNTSMAN 1/12th scale)
Ill update as soon as I've had chance to do mods,
trouble is an86 mile round trip to do testing runs on safe water at Cwmbran. - jelley_babyChief Petty Officer 1st ClassHI Colin, This is a big thank you for your families help at Cwmbran last wednesday, if it had not been for your sons help my Sea Commander on its first run would probably be at the bottom of the lake. it's dry now but will need major work on it as some of the plywood has delaminated slightly. The motor, Receiver and servo work but the speed controller I think has died. I look forward to your next visit, on Sunday I sailed my 40 year old 34 inch Fairey Huntsman and think that I have at last got it to run reasonably well. Graham J from Cwmbran Club

- ianed57Sub-LieutenantI've enjoyed the various pictures of your Sea Queen Larry and it's always been one of my favourites- ever since I was about thirteen when one was completely out of my reach. I'm hoping to start one ( a Jotika kit) as soon as my present restoration- a Wavemaster- is complete.
By the way I loved the Bobby- I've built two of those in my time, both gone west I'm afraid.
How's Lulonga coming along?

- RaydindayalRecruitMany thanks for all the information and attractive pictures about the 'FIRE' I shall get cracking on the repaint job, and then get the motor installed and try again. This won't happen until the spring of our new year. I shall do this at a very suitable pond at Clapham London which is not too far from where I am. Will fill you in then.
Thanks & Regards Ray
Today I will Start,
Any Suggestions would be great I am sure A lot of you have done this before...
Still sits on the shelf as of todayy,
really will start and post about it,
- jelley_babyChief Petty Officer 1st ClassHI I to have restored one, once you get started its well worth it, they sail really well and with modern electric power will run for a reasonable time when being used.
😊 Good luck with the rebuild. 😊
I have managed to get all the correct light patterns on and working, as well as twin radar and now finally have got the crane to operate remotely from the radio transmitter. 👍
- GreggSub-LieutenantSorry but No, This boat has not yet been on display anywhere as not yet completely finished, merely undergoing "sea trials" to check ballasting and seaworthyness if you get my meaning, as due to its flat bows, it is not the smoothest of vessels to steer, or if given too much throttle it heaves a lot of water over the bows.
