Occre Static Display Model - Pilot Boat
This is my model of a 1850s New York pilot boat static display model. It is of simple construction with the hull being double planked using the traditional method of plank on frame. The model also has an authentic United States flag for the time period. The model is uncomplicated and displays nicely.

Aeronaut - Cabin Cruiser Diva
I recently posted the above model and then decided to remove it from My Harbour so I could make some changes to the yacht varnish finish and then re-photograph and post again. But looking at the finish I am completely happy with what I first produced. I now posting the model again with the original text and photographs.
There is a saying - I used to be undecided but now I'm not sure!
Being a beginner to RC model boats I choose Aeronaut's cabin cruiser Diva because I liked the style of a boat from around the 1960s and because I felt it would be easier to build as an entry the RC boat modelling. Although I have skills in building static display model ships I thought for me it would a safe option. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of building the model. I believe that the build is all part of the enjoyment of the hobby.

Hello Lew,
Thank you for your kind comments. It is unfortunate, but not surprising the number of fellows that have had, or are suffering from this dreaded illness. Some so young they have not had a chance to get started in life. But now to happier things - Where did I put that captain's chair??? ๐

Hello Hermank,
It certainly played with my mind, not knowing what the outcome would be and of course I was not the only one who had the worry. My wife and family suffered as much as I did. So although I had concern for myself I also worried about my family's wellbeing. My wife and I have been together for 51 years and I did not want to have say goodbye. Still, all is well now so she can start commenting again on all the modelling I do and lack of grass cutting, decorating, emptying the dishwasher and so on!!! ๐

Hello Hermank,
Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately I had a cancer scare with weeks of uncertainty whilst I underwent various tests. But fortunately in the end I was cleared. The other problem with me getting back to modelling was my Arthritis which is another story!๐
But I'm back now!

Hello everybody,
After a period of ill health and an unwanted health scare I have returned to the building of my model boats or will be in the next few days or so. Just got to get organised!
Anyway, I just thought I post this message to let you know that I'm still around and look forward chats and adding post in the coming weeks.
All the best to you all and a Happy New Year!

๐ Cardboard Lifeboat Kit

Hello Colin and Bill,
I hope you are both well.
Thank you for your posts. I found out about the model by receiving an email from Scalescenes. And as I have built many of their kits for my model railways I thought I would download it and have a go. I only started it on Monday afternoon and have built the build cradle which comes as part of the kit and I have just started cutting out the and gluing the hull supports. If all goes well it should be fun to build. The best thing about these kits are that you own the download for life so if you mess something up you can reprint the page that the part is on and start again at no extra cost.

Hello everybody, I have not posted on the forum for a while because of some responsibilities I have to take care of which are taking longer than I expected. I am also suffer with some ongoing ill health that recently manifested itself which has slowed down my building projects.
Having said that, I have started a small side project. The build is a 1:76 scale static display 52 foot Barnett Class Lifeboat. The model is made using card and printed detail sheets. This kit is available to download from scalescenes.com. The kit reference number T040a and is available in model railway gauges N and OO. A link to the Lifeboat kit's page is copied below.
I just thought I would post this in case anyone was interested in building this little model.

๐ Building The Footy Bob-About Sailboat Supplied By SLEC UK

Hello Ronald,
The building is going okay. I have the electrics to finish and then apply some coats of yacht varnish to the hull. But you are quite right, the jungle, sorry, garden is starting to become foremost in my mind. To be able to get the Brownie points from my wife to be able to continue building models we went out yesterday and purchased a load of plants. So I have those to get in. ๐
The other thing that is slowing down my model building is that I have a small business selling on Etsy which I need to update and do some work on. So, I'm working on the garden and business at the moment. But I'm bound to get bored and back to model making soon! ๐

Hello flaxbybuck,
First, sorry for the delayed reply.
With regards to false booms, you are correct in thinking that they are fixed and rigid. After cutting the main mast and false booms to length a whole is drilled in the main mast at the appropriate position as shown on the plans. A whole is then drilled in one end of each of the two false booms. You then cut a small piece of steel rod (which comes with the kit) and pass it through the whole in the main mast and bend it to the correct angle as per the plan. Once I was happy with the angle I glued the rod in place with Epoxy resin. When the resin had hardened I then fitted the two false booms in place with Epoxy resin and made any final adjustments before the resin had set.
I hope the above helps.

I have stopped receiving notification emails concerning replies to my posts and I also think I'm not getting any emails notifying me of private messages, new follows and rank changes. I have checked that these notifications are all switched on which they are but I now no longer receive any of these emails.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, can they tell me how to overcome it and start receiving emails again.

Hello Dave,
Thank you for the information. Okay I now see what the addition lead is for. The battery holder takes AA batteries of which I was going to use just disposables but I might now purchase some rechargeable batteries as well.

๐ Switched Battery Box

I have just fitted the battery box and receiver on my Bob-About sailboat and I'm just about to fit the switch for the battery box but once again as a person with a limited brain to understand what I have here in front of me I'm now confused again.
The switch unit has two wires on one side. One wire terminated in a socket and one terminated in a plug. the other side of the switch has one wire only which is terminated in a plug. Obviously the plug on the wire from the battery holder goes into the socket on one side of the switch and the switch is then connected to the receiver by a wire with a plug but what is the other wire with the plug for?
I have added a photograph for reference.
If anyone can help I would be grateful.
