From what I can see from the pictures I would be inclined to remove the prop tailshafs altgether and make new ones with the appropriate shafts etc. Leave the centre shaf as static to revolve freely when the boat is moving. Its amazing what you can make by moulding and fairing etc. You may need to repaint the bottom but thats no big deal. The rudder is a bit more difficult and once again I would do the same as with the shafts tubes. Hope this helps. Cheers Ian

Hi Chris, Yes, on both parts. Then once you apply a little heat the solder will melt and run togther. In some cases you not need to add any more solder to the joint. Sorry if I didn't make myself clearer in the fist instance. Cheers Ian

Looks great and fits the part well. With soldering I have learnt that pre-tinning the mating parts makes for the final solder job so much easier. As I said before make up some sort of support to hold it together so all you need to worry about is soldering the joint and not have it moving around. Good luck. Cheers Ian

Happy Easter to all from Auckland, New Zealand. Enjoy this special occasion and maybe find time to work on your model. I certainly have with the canopy on my Venice water taxi. Photos to follow at some stage. Cheers Ian
Ps - Not sure if I should salute all you higher ranking officers who have commented ahead of me, but I suppose we are all in the 'same boat' so please accept my salute.

Chris, Your build looks great as well and I like the way you fitted in out inside. I had to keep it all in the rear engine space so it was all a bit tight. Good fun lining up the drive on the stern unit to get it correct, Cheers Ian

Hi Willem, Looks very good and well put together. Where did you get the driver from as I would one fopr my VWT. I have looked everywhere but to no avail. Regarding Chris's comment about the stern leg. I have used the same one and it siezed up up soon after water trial. When I went to the supplier I was told the warranty doesn't exist due to the Ukrane war as that is where the units were made and the business is no more. Disassembled and rebuilt with lubricant and now it spins freely. but yet to do full sea trial.
Willem keep us posted on your progress. I have attached a couple of photos of mine so far. Cheers Ian

Its looking good and very fiddly work. I am working on the canopy on my Venice water taxi and I recently machined 4 .036 thousands dia pins to pivot the canopy frame which is 2 mm dia brass rod. Needed to use a very sharp HSS tool to machine them. Photos to follow at some stage. Thinking outside the square as to what material to use is also a challenge. I needed 2 stainless air scoops for the vents on my engine cover so I bought 2 SS teaspoons and cut about 12 mm off the spoon end. Perfect is what I would say. Cheers Ian

Sounds very authentic. Does it increase in sound as you open the throttle? That would be cool if it did. I need one for a v8 for my model of Thunderbolt. Do you know if one is offered? Cheers Ian.

๐ Solder

Hi, your soldering job looks great, well done. What I have found with soldering, as with brazing etc as well, is cleanlyness of the components is paramount. Also, if you tin both parts, put in place, and apply the heat it will flow nicely. Not sure on the age of solder so I suppose if it doesn't work when all parts are clean then it looks like a bin job. Cheers Ian

Hi, I would check to see all the linkages are free and move easily. If thats OK then it must be electrical/sending signal etc. I have very little knowledge on this but maybe just start by replacing some of the components. Good luck. Cheers Ian

Depending on what timber it is, I suggest hold over a boiling kettle or pot and hold the bending tension on it as you pass it over the hot steam. If successful you will feel the timber start to bend as it heats. Otherwise laminate from thinner strips and do it over a former with rad you want. Good luck. Ian

Thanks for your nice comments and no I didn't cut the teeth on the Myford as they were done by an specialist gear cutting company. I just made the blanks. However, I did hand make the 21 tooth gear for the special thread I had to cut and I hand filed the shape of the tooth after drilling and sawing away the bulk of the waste material. The teeth weren't perfect but it was the 21 teeth that was most important. I have since 3D printed a gear and its on the lathe now as part of the feed gear train. If any of you Myford owners would like one just let me know. For some threads you need 2 x 21 tooth gears so I had to hand make another before I bought my 3D printer. Cheers Ian

Another satisfied Myford owner (past). Sounds like you have a lot of much larger stuff these days. I was used to large machines as well during and soon after my apprenticeship working for the Union Steamship Co here in NZ as often the jobs were large. But it doesn't matter how large or small the machines/jobs are, the principle is still the same. Cheers Ian

Hi Peter, thanks for you nice comment. A tool maker in the aircraft industry would have been very interesting. What parts were you make tooling for and were they press tools or plastic molding tools? I always used to admire toolmakers in plastic industry as they would spend hours polishing the dies with diamond paste etc to bring up the mirror finish. As a machinist, I don't think I would have the patience. Cheers Ian
