Very interested in your build of a Norfolk Wherry. I have often thought of building one myself as a present to Alice, who is a Norfolk Girl. I must admit I was thinking of a moulded hull, so admire the fact that you are building from scratch.
Best of luck, I shall watch with interest.

Nice pick for a build, I am a fan of gaff-rigged boats. I will follow with interest.

Looking good now the work comes.
I would suggest you read everything you can on planking as it takes some preparation.
For me the biggest part of learning to plank a boat was keeping the planks in place will the glue is drying.
Plank some on both sides this will help keep the boat from twisting if you do some on one side do do the same on the other.
You will need to learn how to bend and tapper the planks.
Go on line and find video's on planking there are lots of them out there watch and read you will be able to plank this boat.
    Good luck.

    Hi Jacko,
Good luck with the planking, it will not be easy!
Please note before your get too far along with the build, if you are going to sail the model (radio control) then please note you will need provision for a fin /keel slot as barges and wherries will not float upright/sail without one.

Don't want you to finish your planking and then have to cut a hole in the hull, for a keel box.

Added a couple of pictures of my Dad's Wherry. which also featured in Model Boats September 2018.

    Kind Regards
    Roy

I've only ever built small model dinghies clinker built , apart from a few real ones years ago, but I think you will find that 5mm wide planking will be too narrow . Once you get away from the garboard planks, it's surprising how quickly the curve in the planks builds up particularly around the turn of the bilge. Hope you don't mind me pointing this out, but I think you'll need some wider planking. Never mind, some of the 5mm will come in for the decking. Are you having the mast to lower on the big windlass forward of the mast?

    Cheers, Nerys

    Jacko,
I used those modified paper/binder clips on my ongoing 1M yacht build. They worked well and I used both the medium and small size clips. The small one worked well when the gaps got smaller on the planking. Have fun!

    Hi Nerys,

I hate to be spoil sport and say I have tried PVC pipe myself and found that it couldn't handle the heat, of coarse if you think about the maximum temperature that PVC can handle before becoming soft it is well below the temperature of steam.🙄
In the end I made a plank steamer form metal down pipe and an old kettle. I have attached a few photos of my crude though effective rig.
    Cheers,
    Stephen.

I'm surprised you couldn't find anything in the Mastman range, I've used his working blocks in running rigging quite successfully. Perhaps they were too big for your scale. Pleased to see you are experimenting with mast raising and lowering.

Jacko, I've seen pics of wherries with a white sail but I think they may have been like Thames Barges and sailed around with undressed sails for a while to stretch them, then dressed them later. Yacht wherries usually had white sails of course. I'm following your build with interest because a wherry is on my list of 'boats to build one day'.
