I haven’t followed your build blog up till now, because as a land lubbing North Texan I hadn’t a clue what a wherry was. Man..this thing is cool. I like it. Be proud of her sir, you’ve done a good job, and I think I’m going to learn more about your wherry.
    Nice job👍

Getting a big enough rudder area under water is a problem shared between model barges and wherries. Barge models have a rudder correctly sized and an extension which either swivels or drops down when going in the water. Steering is more or less impossible unless this is done.

Jacko, don't despair if progress is slower than you would like. You are getting there slowly and very well. The rear cabin looks good in your photo. I'm sure we will see pictures of your wherry sailing before long, giving us all the chance to say 'wherry nice'

Very pleased to hear that you now have a mainsail. Get the hatch and the other jobs finished and hopefully we'll soon see you afloat.

Looking good Jacko. I see there is a hole through the mast case so will you be able to lower the gear? What are you doing about a fin keel?

I found a copy of Frank Carr's book, 'Sailing Barges'. Is it a valued book to purchase?

Ron, ref. Sailing Barges by Frank Carr, I've seen it on Abe Books at all sorts of prices from £10 to £25 and on Amazon at £103. You takes yer choice.

Hi Nerys, saw your comment on the Moth, thought you might appreciate this blurb (we had the NZ 'scow' Moth and the Aust Moths here by the hundreds in the 60s and 70s, - most gone now. I still have my 1970s NZ 12ft Cherokee racing dinghy which I restored a few years ago (have put the vid link of the first sail at Torbay (north of Auckland.) with Starlings and Lasers which were racing)- Bit of a drift but sailed well.

The pics are of a NZ moth (white and a later Aussie or international? Moth,-orange and white sail) This was at the NZ sailing dinghy display at the Auckland viaduct a couple of years ago. Also a pic of my Cherokee (red hull)which I took down for the display (only a few left in NZ now,-quite rare.) some lovely boats there, Cherubs, Flying ants, (no Javelins ) Starlings, Mistrals, Idle-Alongs, M class, Sunburst, Paper Tiger cat etc. Most very hard to find now due to age.

Hi jb, only just noticed your post about dinghies. Some nice boats there, some I recognise as we have them in the UK, others I don't. That Cherokee looks a bit of a beast. I had several Moths over the years, I had a very soft spot for them and also built an International Moth. Another class I liked was the International Snipe, I expect you know them as they were pretty worldwide. We had a big class of them at Upnor, where I sailed. We had a very competitive class for mixed dinghies and I built a couple of boats to my own designs, purely to race in that class. But then I went on to bigger boats, cruising and a bit of ocean racing, but there's nothing like the thrill of dinghy sailing.

    Cheers, Nerys

That looks pretty good Jacko. You have my full approval. I'm really looking forward to seeing your wherry afloat. I think you've made a lovely job of her.
