Hi Ron, As you did not appear to know about the Manchester Ship Canal, I thought I would give you some idea of it's size. It is 36 miles long and in it's day was used by all sorts of ships up to quite large cargo ships. Maximum preferred dimensions for ships were 530ft long and 63ft6ins beam, draught 28ft and height 70ft. In 1958 Manchester was UK's 3rd busiest port but the use of container ships has seen this fall back in recent years.

When the winds before the rain, soon you may make sail again, but when the rain's before the wind, tops'l sheets and halyards mind
I really enjoyed the quiz and like Redpopman would like to see it held again. I think every other month would be too much to expect and would probably become boring, but certainly again, perhaps in mid summer. How about submitting questions to Stephen for possible incorporation.
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda,
Nerys.

Actually Peter, I have never seen it. We do have a canal system connecting some of the Great Lakes across Ontario. But, the Manchester canal looks to be shallow, according to the photo Stephen has on his site.

Why wait another year ? can't we do this every other month ? It was great fun, no need for prizes just a leader board of winners may be ?
THANKS Stephen 😀

I think I got three wrong in all. A fourth I could kick myself as I knew the answer was coxswain but forgot to tick the box. Oh well, there’s always next year.🙄

I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.
Thank you Stephen, for posting the daily questions I really enjoyed them. Some were easy but only a couple required a bit of digging like the Manchester Canal from the other day. Looking forward to more in 2022.

Hi Stephen, Forgot to say-
Many thanks for giving our brains (and memory🙄) a rest after the cerebral gymnastics of question 26!
Like many others I could eliminate two answers pronto, probably the same two as the others?
Then spent the rest of the day pondering and cogitating about the other two.
(Gisela kept asking; 'Are you listening to ME!?' 😠)
Got back from Gisela's, well fed on grilled stingray😋, and opted for my original gut feeling😉
Stingray seemed to have done my gut and brain cells some good😁
My 'partridge in a pear tree' arrived a couple of days before Christmas Day.
Many thanks👍
Cheers, Doug 😎

Stephen, I think you have given so much to all of us, especially in this second year of uncertainty.
Your quiz has kept us entertained, and although I got 100% it still kept me thinking.
I PROPOSE YOU GET AT LEAST 3 CHEERS AND A 21 GUN SALUTE.!!!!!!!!
Wishing you and all fellow modellers A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Cheers Colin.

Hi Colin, I'm well versed with BoT as well and Marston's are another favourite of mine (and Bass) - as is the tales I can tell of the brewery. I also have memories of that wonderful (not to motorists) internal rail system. Swap stories sometime.👍

Well Bru, as my origins are from similar area, Burton-upon-Trent, dad had a pub there (free house) so we often visited local breweries to get the best deals, no metal casks then all in wood.
Dad preferred bass, but I preferred Marstons.
Nowadays my favourite is speckled hen. I suppose age matures the pallet as well as the ales we drink.
Thanks for the memories, cheers Colin.

Re "good beers never travel far" reminds me of a remark from the head brewer of Shipstone's (long lost Nottingham brewer) in their sample cellar. I'd just commented on a superb pint of bitter there and enquired why they didn't release it as their 'normal' fare was regarded as an aquired taste (not -it was awful!). He told me this was that "same bitter which unfortunately didn't travel far - even to their own pub next door to the brewery"!!!!!!🤞🤞

I have a bottle labelled "King Goblin - Imperial Ruby" @ 6.6 - saving it for New Years eve. I love the Ruby but not the Gold - the aftertaste not for my palette. Fave this time of the year is an old favourite Hardy & Hanson's "Rockin Rudolph" - rush down to your nearest Green King pub and get one! Ah- memories of H&H by far the finest of the Nottingham Breweries and maybe the whole east midlands!👍

I am partial of any form of alcohol.
However, I can't imbibe when working on my models. It never goes well😭😭😭

I was away so didn't get to see this one until today, only 'guessed' the right answer because I knew the other three. The answer I was looking for was missing but of course it wasn't 'fictional' the Hopewell was one of the ships that the explorer Henry Hudson sailed in.👎

Hi guys, thanks for the quiz, I really enjoyed it. The only problem that I had was, living on the correct side of the world, my window of opportunity to answer was somewhat limited. At times the answer was given before I had a chance to read the question. Nevertheless, thank you and cheers to all.

France is 23 correct out of 23 answered, so technically top spot! But a little unfair to show them on the top country list considering there is only 1 member 😉 🤣
