I have worked as a butcher but only with the navy.
I've not heard of this slang, can you give some examples?

I missed that question of the day regarding the rhyming slang.
Sadly I was in the hospital.

But does anyone one here ever worked as a Butcher??
And heard the Butchers back slang.

I was just 14 and a half when Im starrted there and when I heard things that was being
said I didn't know what the hell they were saying.

They basicly say the words back wards and it sounds weird. That way the public in the shop
do not know that they are talking about them.
They come out with a full sentance of it at times.

Cor blimy is a contraction and poor (Cockney) rendition of "God blind me".

grand - £1000 everyone knows that.
kosher readies - unlaundered money (I love that one, kosher meaning genuine)!
monkey - £500
pony - £25
potless - to be skint
score - £20

Phil, I've come to realize that these sorts of lapses in the counting system happen from time to time.

Scooby-Doo reminds me of a cartoon I watched as a kid.

'Scooby Doo', more often just 'I ain't got a scooby' is rhyming slang for 'I ain't got a clue'. Spreads mostly through the medium of television. Most two word phrases tend to lose their second word (the one that rhymes with the original word), making it even more difficult for people who don't know it works. For example: Plates mean feet (from plates of meat). I hope some other examples will follow from other UK based members

A good friend of mine was the manager at Fluke where they made the meters. They also own Loctite as well.

He is retired now very busy making G1 model live steam railway engines and I usually pass onto him spare boats and yachts.

Today's question, after finding the correct terms in Italian, seemed simple enough.
Yet, there was one term among the four I couldn't find, or rather, I couldn't find any relevance to the naval field.
Eventually, I found it and understood what it was.
Of course, it wasn't the right answer because I had already identified the correct one, but I wanted to be sure.

Although I was familiar with the term in reference to anchors, the first thing that came to my mind was also the electronic test equipment line. I actually own a few!

Hi Nickthestream. this is a Fluke.

Fluke are a left-side flatfish with both eyes on the left side of the body. They have a large mouth that can extend beyond its eyes. Females live up to 20 years and weigh about 20 pounds, while males rarely pass 7 years or 5 pounds. Fluke can change their dorsal coloration to camouflage with the ocean bottom.

Before translating it, the term Fluke reminded me of a brand of quality but very expensive multimeters that I have used in the past.

A fluke is also a flat worm which is a parasite on a fish causing a secondery infection😊

Wow that has a wide answer spread! Having drawn up a few yacht plans the answer was more obvious, but not a bad question. Lately though I have put the main strength at the stern in the transom, which works well for model yachts but not so for full size.

You can make model boat/ yacht hull too strong as I have recently found out. When you build on a board and hold the frames in place and then plank or skin the hull, there are some very strong tensions with in the framework.
This becomes apparent when the hull is removed from the building board and internal forces resolve themselves and it could 'hog' the deck.
My next constructions will use balsa and obechi and lite ply, and strengthen the hull surface when the hull is removed and checked for accuracy.

They were also used on sections of the Mulberry Harbours deployed on the D Day landing beaches.
I first heard about them in a docu (History Channel?) about the Mulberries and D Day.

Strange enough, I knew this answer from watching the Discovery Channel TV series Bering Sea Gold.
Several of the miners use Spud Barges to dredge for gold on that show.

I think A.I. has officially lost it! Spud indeed, I hardly read the question!
The Which (UK goods and services comparison magazine, takes no enemies) said at worst A.I. was 54% accurate, you would fail most exams with that score, and 71% which is just about acceptable.

The only reason I knew this one was a few weeks back I was doing research for my Motorflote project that I am currently building. Saw a reference to a spud barge so I dug a bit deeper. Found spuds were poles as well as potatoes 😂

Took the longest answer today (29th) and also used the answer is in the question theory 😊.
Even though I have walked along the canal banks at Castleford, I don't know much about barges 😏☺.

There are still 3% who got it wrong😆

I watched Pearl Harbour, Midway and Tora Tora Tora over these Christmas holidays- Peace and Good Will to aĺl men. Certainly not on the TV 😐😃.
I saw Pearl Harbour get bombed and torpedoed and the Arizona written off three times-but they were all good action films 👍.
