I've had to search for question of the day for many weeks now - often the only way to find it is through the 'members online' column

A new issue has come up! I have one unanswered question suddenly appeared, that was after I answered todays question.

I thought that HMS Hood damaged Bismarck’s fuel tanks during the sea battle which led to the sinking of Hood. Didn’t that lead to the final sinking of Bismarck? She had to slow down to dog for repairs, or so I thought. 😳

Well well well, I thought the rest unlikely and expected to descend further. I have seen rip tides and was in one with an inflatable paddle board (with seat and canoe paddle). I was towed out of it by a passing fisherman. So I knew the wind had little to do with rip tides. That was only 3 years ago, so still taking risks at 80+.

Like several members I did not know the answer but reading the question revealed all.

The idea of iron ore going into liquifaction boggles the mind. Mainly as a full load takes up the bottom quarter of the hold.

The explanation even says for anchoring structures but the question implies 'vessels'. Where do you draw the line between a vessel and an offshore structure?

O well, chose the wrong answer. Hopefully will do better tomorrow, my score keeps dropping🤨🤔

All the anchors I fit on my models are the old ones! Another one wrong, I looked at the DEA ones afterwards as I have never heard of them, but they seem to be for off shore rigs rather than carried around by large vessels?

They are usually carried and maneuvered by anchor handling vessels...

Had forgotten that the DEA had pretty much replaced the Stockless, which is on my brain these days because of my Sterling C-2 kit.

When I was in, there were just 2 numbers you needed to know the first was F1250 this was your identity card and the other was if you were put on a charge, (being a bit naughty for those not having served) this was a 252 and was always the Guardroom phone number.
Usually a smack on the wrist got you put on 'Jankers'. You had to report twice a day in your best uniform and be inspected. This is where you find out who your friends are, as they help with the 'dressing up'.

More trivia for when you are trying to learn something and so something else has to go to make room!

That was tough, but then I do not do any research, just work on logic or my own knowledge - I treat the quiz this quiz as any other, and try to answer without any extrenal help - just depends on how necessary it is to be at the top of the league.

I took a stab and got it right. However, I had a brief look on t'internet, that regulation deals with water level sensors in multi hold cargo ships...

At that time, I was in Dover working at P&O. They had just taken over from Townsend Thoresen. It wasn't a good time in their history.. 🤔

That was lucky. I just picked the longest one.😀

Was a while back now, but I believe it was a NatGeo team working with the National Marine Fisheries Service. A subdivision of NOAA.
Also with contributions from Department of Natural Resources or Fish and Wildlife of various US States, amongst others.

Net illumination has relatively little effect on cetaceans (whales and dolphins) as in the question.
Because they rely on echo-lot rather than vision to detect obstacles, i.e. nets.
