Question of the Day?

@Rockbag
I think most of these quizzes were written in BC times. Before Columbus. Only a part of the world existed back then.

Yes it's one of those tricky ones again. Ernest Shackleton was on-board the Discovery with Scott as Captain in 1900. Any other date the answer could have been A.

Question of the Day?

RNinMunich your right except we are being invaded in the name of that religion. It isn’t Isreal it is the western world! In USA we have millions that crossed the border n not vetted if health checked. Almost all makes of military age. We feed, cloth, give then cash cards, free laundry in the hotels n all benefits each state offered. Meanwhile our vets n homeless are on streets. They go in groups n kick or hit with sticks the citizens. All they knew was chaos n now cause it here. It is worse in Europe, Japan and Australia. It isn’t against one religion it’s against all who are not them. They have come to west illegally for benefits and a larger number for religion. If your not of them your an infidels and will be taken out. I agree we won’t be here to see but our family will. I’m buying more kits befire they get outlawed n our ponds taken over. Our parks have been here in Massachusetts already. Stay safe all you model ship sailors n vigilant. Hobby shops closing, paint supplies dwindle as well as materials like Balsa. Sorry to put this out there but it does effect our hobby!

Question of the Day?

I live in Banbury, a market town in North Oxfordshire. It is claimed that Jonathan Swift spent time in Banbury and Gulliver was a local family name in the area. There is stone in a local church yard with the name on it.

Gulliver sailed on the Hopewell in his third voyage which is supposed to end in Japan.

Question of the Day?

Ye Gods and little fishes!🤔Unbelievable Rooky!
Seems this Political Correctness (PC) malarkey is getting out of hand☹️
If it carries on like this the whole world is going to degenerate in to a horrible homogenous soup of same ordinariness! The history of the world will be rewritten and emasculated.
And all in the name of religion, semantics and pragmatics.
I'm glad I have lived long enough to enjoy freedom of speech and will probably not live long enough to witness how this nonsense will pan out.
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate that the colonial powers throughout the ages, when other values were the norm, made many mistakes and committed many crimes (some more than others) as seen in hindsight today. But that's no excuse for continually harking back to events of the distant past and trying to eradicate them from the history of human development or bend them to suit particular beliefs.
The former colonial powers have learned from their mistakes, or at least tried and corrected some. But others, in the name of religion (🙄) are still thinking and acting in 6th century terms.
The wars and terrorist activities of the modern era differ only from the wars of antiquity and the middle ages etc etc by the efficiency of the means to kill employed.

If, as some fringe scientists suggest, our world is nothing more than a simulation experiment in a vast computer on a higher plane of existence - then I reckon we are nearing the time when the simulation team should admit that the experiment failed and pull the plug on us and start anew. Over many centuries we have proven again and again that the human mentality en mass is incapable of learning to live together in harmony.

Sorry folks, not my usual style, but Rooky's comment caught me in a low moment.
Amongst other events, I'm getting fed up with seeing protests and accusations of genocide against a country defending itself from countries whose avowed intention is the total eradication of said country. All in the (alleged) name of religion.
How would European countries or the US react if a neighbour indiscriminately bombarded them with rocket attacks? (Without getting into the Ukraine debate!)
This whole continuing mess in the Middle East of the modern era was started essentially by Britain and France with the 'Lines in the sand' agreement, creating Iraq, and the betrayal of the Arabs after the 1st World War. Then perpetuated in 1948 by Britain's division of Palestine and 'creation' of Israel. Or should that be recreation?

Rant over!
@ Stephen (Fireboat). Delete this if you wish, just me venting my spleen😁

Question of the Day?

Cash! You are correct! And the word “stuff” carries the same weight over at NASA. I worked for two days with Apollo astronauts Jim Lovell and Dave Scott as they tech advised us while we were editing the movie “Apollo 13.”
As you would expect we got around to asking the UFO questions. They both looked at us and said, “Ya, we saw stuff.”
I laughed out loud and mentioned my father’s constant use of the word “stuff.” They laughed too and said exactly what you mentioned! It was “on a need to know basis,” and I didn’t need to know! But, they also felt my dad’s explanation was very appropriate as well. 😂

So, Jumpugly, “stuff” was akin to “that’s on a need to know basis, and you don’t need to know”?🤣

Question of the Day?

For those of you with RC submarines this could be useful. 27Mhz and lower allows your submarine to dive deeper than it would with 35Mhz or 2.4Ghz transmitters

Question of the Day?

ELF, and VLF are not as common as they used to be I guess, and these days they also use the SSIX satellite system information exchange at periscope depth as well. But, as usual my late father said there were ways that were none of my business and would fall into the “stuff” category over at the DOD. Which basically meant, “shut the hell up and stop asking questions.”

Question of the Day?

As far as I know VLF radio was used until recently at least. I taught Sea Cadet courses at an ex RNAS station near Blackpool, most of the site was occupied by a radio transmitting station run by the MOD they had VLF (50 Khz) short wave and UHF facilites. The aerials were like something out of a Quatermass movie! Most impressive. From what I understood it was the VLF recieving station for submarine comms.

Question of the Day?

This is another sucker question that I refuse to answer. The real and most definitive and legal answer is "reckless." At least that is the term used in the Ca. Vehicle Code which also governs boater's violations in addition to vehicles. Perhaps the UK used terms I am not familiar with, but means the same thing.

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Is it ME ? Sonar is not for detecting the bottom of the sea, that is a sounder that checks the depth/bottom,
sonar as you already know, is to detect if there is anything beneath the water
